Re : The Alpine A110 (finally) cometh | PH Fleet

Seems like a massive forward step to recover lost sales to me. I don't think the emissions level will be a massive concern for the target audience.
In 2021 Porsche will have to have a fleet average of 95g/km for UK sales or face penalties of £95 per g in excess of that for each vehicle and guess who is going to paying the penalty. In that context its a pretty short sighted design philosophy.
Makes the Alpine design philosophy so much more appealing to people with a social conscience. The contrast could not be more stark.

But if you want the gts pack ( contrast stitching in headrests/ illuminated vanity mirrors/ gts logo on Speedo / coloured seatbelts/ and a few other options then you can get it to around £82k easily ( as a friend has done) including PCCB and sports seats.
You can easily get to 75k on these just with the items which should come with a car retailing at 65k. Cruise control, parking, decent speakers, climate control, contrast stitching (I'm not being facetious), decent paint (though I must say, I'm a sucker for Guards Red which is free), buckets. If it offered PDK, it would be 2.5k more. But if you want the gts pack ( contrast stitching in headrests/ illuminated vanity mirrors/ gts logo on Speedo / coloured seatbelts/ and a few other options then you can get it to around £82k easily ( as a friend has done) including PCCB and sports seats.
It's expensive but it is highly desirable if like me you think the GT4 is too much rear wing and trinkety. I wouldn't say it is too expensive or a rip off but like the Alpine, there are buyers at that price point who think it makes sense value wise and I am sure it will be a very good car. It certainly is an odd one though given how close it is to the the GT4. Essentially the difference is the GT3 front suspension, the rear wing and 19bhp.
If they offered passive dampers and lost 100kg, it would be superb I think.

In terms of sales yes. In terms of development, is it really that much of a step on from the 981? It's hardly a step change compared to what is being offered by Alpine. No doubt the GTS will be a nice car though but it's more of the same in my view.springfan62 said:

Also the price and manual only will limit the sales.
.
Main challenge was to comply with new emission standards with a big NA, they did it with the 718GT4 and are now further cashing in on that investment.
As for weight, Cayman GT4 have always been around 1400kg irl, old regs allowed for the lightest spec that's all.

<it's all about Porsches>
It would appear that some owners of the German brand are a little insecure........<it's all about Porsches>
But I can't deny the appeal of large displacement 4.0 nasp....

You probably need to tell Porsche, not me. In that context its a pretty short sighted design philosophy.

I think people with a social conscience drive a 1.0 Yaris or ride a bicycle, like me.
And that’s the benefit of choice.
I wanted something lightweight and fun in the UK.
Porsche was too heavy and a manual gearbox was (to me) offset by overly-long gearing.
On balance I was willing to forgive the DCT system as the ratios were well picked and a lightweight sportscar was more important to me.
Gearing on a 991.2 is lower I seem to recall so it seems the Cayster is hobbled somewhat but for what reason I do not know.

I do like the Alpine, but I would never buy one due to it being auto only.
Same here, its almost perfect and just misses out on one really really important detail for me.I think for all the manual/auto talk it doesn’t really make much of a difference in sales.
We know Porsche sell far more pdk than manuals so Alpine just followed the money as they were not expecting to sell a huge number in the UK anyway so I’m glad we got RHD at least!
Interesting on the Porsche gts thread that some buyers are clearly waiting for the PdK option.

Having changed back to a Porsche with a manual recently, I do miss how easy it is to select gears in the Alpine when parking. I thought one of the great features of the box are the selector buttons which allows you to choose D and R really quickly.
Reverse parking cannot be any easier in an Alpine. Possibly the best car I've ever owned for that. And you don't need a reversing camera in my view if you have the sensors.
I won't bother justifying too much why I moved back to a Porsche. An R came up and I always wanted to own one in the exact spec so took the leap. Very different to an Alpine though. Love them both.
