That reminds me, I must go on a cricket forum and spout utter ste. The fact that I have no interest or knowledge about the beautiful game makes no odds.
You know "the beautiful game" isn't a phrase to do with cricket? So don't want to answer the question I take it.

You seem not to realise that your constant condescending comments towards posters (not just myself but many on several threads) actually are due to deep seated psychological instabilities and your comments make this known. Perhaps something you should look into.
In regards to what do I drive (I didn't even see you had asked this question as I was not responding to it) this is of no consequence.
Your anology regarding cricket does not stand up. Are you a chef or do you never criticise food? A builder or do you never criticise architecture? A highways engineer or do you never criticise the states of road layouts. A lawyer or do you never criticise the law, an actor or do you never criticise films.....the list is endless.
I will however answer your question despite it being totally irrelevant as I know you will hang onto that forever otherwise. I have an Impreza STI Spec C RA, Megane R26 and a soon to be replaced BMW 330ci.
Also Kia &Hyundai make some decent cars these days, not sure what you have against them.

Out of these two, i do think that the R is the better bet. I know the TCR is a bit lighter and possibly a bit sharper, but i don't think it'll exactly be a night and day difference in terms of being more of a more raw car to drive. I'd take the Haldex 4WD to put the power down better and give it that all-weather ability. After all, it is a VW Golf, so it's already got a numbness to it that can't really be shaken off. However, I still think you can have a bit of fun in them and the FWD variants, when rolling, are just as quick, if not even quicker perhaps.
With that being said, i do have a Seat Leon Cupra 290 on order, which is obviously FWD. However, i got it on a stonking cheap lease deal. I'll be interested to see if it has more of a fun-factor to it, coming from my current 2.0 TSI Scirocco. Most people have told me that it will, but I'm still thinking It's going to feel like a typical VW product, albeit a more complete and accomplished package overall.

In all fairness you also probably need to think about how you may come accross with unnecessarily belligerent stuff like this:Elatino1 said:
Ooh, don't say that.
Despite them being better by absolutely every objectionable measure, being faster, grippier, safer, more reliable, with more creatures comforts, someone (old) will be along to say that they are too bloated and too fast nowadays and that some old Peugeot that rattles itself to pieces whilst barely managing to hit 60mph in 9seconds is what a true enthusiast would have and anyone else is just a young pretender.

but Elatino, i don't think grippier is necessarily better. even faster comes with consequences, notably weight of everything to make it fast and stop. some do have rose tints, true. but manufacturers aren't focusing on fun that much, rather making fun from what they have as a base platform, which is something different.
i guess you'd say i should look at the UP! Gti, fair enough and it's great it exists.

Yes and you can just plant your foot down and hold on! They are good at the traffic light grand prix too...because you don't have to worry about missing or messing your gearchange up. For out and out speed an auto definitely works, I just really miss using the gearstick and using the clutch when I'm driving an auto though.

I have an R and an up! GTI and find the up! a more fun car to drive, which is mainly due to being able to use the little performance it does have most of the time. I've owned many performance Golfs, MK6 being the only iteration of GTI I haven't had, and I do think that VW's quest to build the ultimate all-rounder is impacting negatively on how enjoyable they are to drive, though as an ownership proposition they are hard to beat, and that is kind of what the Golf is all about. I've found myself completely uninterested by the MK8, the looks both internally and externally are just not working for me. selym said:

They really can't. Plenty of autos on track days where the driver's skills is focused on braking trace, trail braking, varying turn-in techniques to adjust to corner radius, vision, optimising the line based on weather conditions, balancing the car on the throttle, minimising weight transfer or exploiting weight transfer, optimising slip angles, etc etc etc. Whereas the skill required to change gear with a stick is very low, even when H&Ting. nickfrog said:

I'd never understand why you'd want a GTI over an R these days?
Image. Drive. Security. Luxury Tax. 4 reasons why 12mths ago I chose a new GTI PP over an R.
Surely It's more about the car itself, as apposed to which wheels it's being driven by. The Golf, in any form, has always been described as dull, which is actually what makes it the car that it is, both good and bad.

Ah, ok. I was kidding around but there you go. I guess you drive an auto.
No, sorry to disappoint I just think the choice of box type is not a very good indication of skills required or level of enthusiasm for driving, particularly when some very good cars are only available with one or the other type.
