Picking up on some errors in the article. It says that the 2.9 petrol V6 (ES9J4S) wasn’t available in the 407 saloon (and estate). It was. I considered buying one in 2007. Similarly the 2.7 V6 and 3.0 V6 diesels were both available in the saloon, despite what it says. On what basis is the author calling the petrol V6 an old shoe ? Just an unjustified cheap shot, really. The engine is powerful by the standards of the time, smooth, refined, economical for a V6 and reliable (except coil packs). Only downside is a very expensive cam belt change needed every 5 – 10 years.
The main faults of the 407 coupe were being too large, having ill proportions which emphasised the bulbous styling and carrying the wrong badge to satisfy badge snobs.
The ES9 was certainly available on the saloon, along with the the 2.7HDi. However, I don't think the 3.0 HDi was ever fitted. The coupe got it, along with the Citroen C5 and C6. Just came along to scoff at the front overhang and styling in general, but see its been well covered! Almost looks like a see-saw from the side.
Guess they hoped the 3 "Gills" in the front bumpers sides would take your eye off the camber scraping overhang which I imagine was great at clearing paths of chewing gum when parked over kerbs.
How Peugeots styling has transformed of late.
