As good as the ST is, you've got to ask yourself why Ford are having to knock £2500 off and offer super cheap finance to shift cars, whereas VW are in a position where they can increase prices based on huge demand.
You can levy that argument at pretty much every car maker VW included, every car maker discounts they're price the UP is the exemption for now but give it time & they'll be discounting these too.Otispunkmeyer said:

I am now getting rid of my UP and getting a MK8 ST Fiesta ST3 for less than 20k. You cannot even compare ST3 to the UP GTi. So anyone who doesn't find the extra few thousand is insane or cannot afford the insurance on the ST. Ford finance is 2.9% apr also so you would probably pay about the same.

VW have always been less willing to discount, and always offer higher APR rates (apart from the Golf R), yet you sound like you `want` to pay more just because it has a VW badge on it? Strange

The swift sport is a great car but Suzuki always seem to be held back by poor finance offers.
6.9% apr !
A few people have mentioned £14k cars but if they are out there they are well hidden
Suzuki had offers on just before Christmas...some dealers were selling for less than £14k6.9% apr !

Having owned a non gti up which we left in the car park whilst on holiday to return to it having the handbrake seized on. To unseize the back wheels the AA hit them with a big hammer (3am on a Sunday morning in rainy Birmingham with a drive to Scarborough to look forward to before bed.)
The following week it was due a service which the handbrake issue was mentioned. After much getting the hump and being quoted £1200 to replace the rear wheels and drums I managed to get vw to replace the drums FoC as not for for purpose. The service manager told me “the new drums don’t cure the issue, if the car is to be left anywhere for more than 2 days VW don’t recommend using the handbrake.).
Never again will I own an up. A shame really as I’ve had a few mk1 golfs and really fancied a GTI up.

Picked one up two months old (900 miles)
Either way - both are pretty rare sights on the road and make far more sense than a £40k 320d!
Those who buy are issued with or have to lease a £40k diesel BMW will smugly assume 'they' have the sense in so far that they are behind the wheel of a …..BMW not a baby VW.Either way - both are pretty rare sights on the road and make far more sense than a £40k 320d!

I just tried to configure one on the VW website.
I gave up.
Is it me? Or is their website awful?
Not just you! I tried to do the same and the whole format is appalling. I gave up.

If you google 'VW UP GTI configurator' the page destination seems to be where you want to be, but when you are there you can only spec a standard up!
Went to my local VW and they advised they didn't even have pricing yet!

My gawd the Swift is ugly. On that aline id vote for the UP.
Plus the lady getting out with the fantastic legs. Sold!
The up is literally a cube. Whilst I agree the new swift isn't as good looking as the previous model I'd still say it's better looking than anything vw make. Plus the lady getting out with the fantastic legs. Sold!

Drive a Skoda Citigo Monte Carlo, it was a hoot to drive, ended up buying our daughter a Kia Picanto instead as it was a much better deal like for like but the Skoda was a better driving car.
I agree....around town and narrow lanes the Citigo is a great little car....often leave my 911 on the drive and take the Skoda......I think the black alloys make it faster.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
