For a bit of fun I compared the dimensions of the GR4 to my old ZC32 Swift Sport which to me was the perfect size car for tearing about in.

The Yaris will be...

105mm longer.

110mm wider.

50mm lower.

128mm longer in the wheelbase.

So when you see this shape of Swift running about the Yaris will be not far off this size of car...excellent.

Why don't they need to build 20k cars?
Nope, they DID need to, but then they announced they wont be running it in the WRC next year so there is no longer any need to homologate it.

Which put some people off ownership; the fact that it'll be the car it was always going to be wasn't enough; they wanted some rallying pedigree too.

Still aiming to use it in 2022 though, so would have assumed that the cars still need to be sold for homologation purposes?

Where have they confirmed that? 2022 needs to be a hybrid platform.

So, here is the response I got from Toyota UK on 17th June when I asked the question as to the number of cars (body shells) that will be produced/sold. Note that this was after Toyota withdrew the GR Yaris based WRC car as their 2021 entry.

"Thanks for getting back in touch. The UK allocation of GR Yaris depends on a variety of factors and we can’t comment on an exact figure. Regarding your earlier query, 25,000 GR Yaris units will be produced for WRC homologation purposes."

Hopefully, will be able to dig into a bit more detail on Saturday.

My interpretation was that the body shape would still be used for 2022, however, that is dependent on the rules confirmation. Real shame if not.

Horribly boring i know, but if anyone going along to the previews could take some pics of the boot (looks like a flat floor from the lip due to the 4WD gubbins, which is what I'm after) and what it's like with the seats folded down it would be much appreciated; this is going to be our 'dog car' - how I got the purchase by Mrs T.... biggrin

from what i read/see, it sounds like the 2022 rules might be full prototype tube frame chassis cars with bodywork draped over them, though it is not confirmed yet.

If so, I dont think they will ever have to fulfill the 25k for homologation purposes, which seems crazy when you consider the amount of work that went into this car... unless it was all a big marketing ploy..

Did anyone else receive a 15 page PDF brochure from your Toyota dealership today? It provides a detailed specification list which looks really good as standard.

Does the circuit pack include JBL and parking sensors/camera then?

Take a look at this https://youtu.be/IGpI4_7ydI0?t=473 Boot is pretty much non-existent but with seats folded down there is a bit more space.

Rear parking camera yes. Doesn't mention sensors or JBL. Not as standard anyway. The brochure didn't include or indicate extra options.

Yes, a PDF copy of this 15-page brochure was emailed to me on 6th July.

Agree. One could not ask more for the Circuit Pack spec, except perhaps for the JDL audio system, but, to me, that is a nice to have (i.e. good if it was standard but whether or not I would spend extra to have it I am not sure).

Anybody noticed this; 'Carbon fibre roof wrap', which means the carbon fibre-reinforced plastic roof is wrapped in carbon fibre (vinyl) wrap.

If you're suggesting steel roof wrapped in plastic, this video suggests that's not the case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5bNKhuk96M

One thing I did notice on the spec sheet was the circuit pack car runs different pads, I was thinking the calipers on both cars were the same but one was painted red, so maybe different calipers to?

No, I mean carbon fibre-reinforced plastic roof wrapped in carbon fibre (vinyl).

Further, the RZ "First Edition" cars sold in Japan have a differently patterned wrap.

Was discussed a few days ago. Basically the carbon/plastic roof doesn't look pretty (like lots of watermarks) so they wrap it to be look easy on the eye.

Yep, that was the point - I couldn't remember where this was discussed...
