Re : Toyota GR Yaris - official!

Still amazed that a car that could get 500 comments on this forum would be a
Yaris
Even the looks get a thumbs up from folk, and considering what it was based on, that's no mean feat considering the stone him stone him PH crowd.
Slightly more down to earth, given AWD and two torsen differentials I bet it is pretty good on some Michelin Cross Climates come a large snowfall.

Exactly. There seems to be a few deluded posters who think a £40k Yaris will sell. It won’t.
Why are you hung up on the Yaris name? Like the Megane Trophy, at this level of technology and performance the name is irrelevant and has no shackles to the cooking model. Anyone who understands the potential and wants one won't be deterred by the letters on the bootlid. If it hadn't been for homologation requirements they could have called it Toyota GR260 or whatever. Would that have been more palatable to you?

Seriously? It will be closer in hardware than just about any other consumer car for sale today, that's the main attraction for me. ... but still far off in ultimate pace. Not interested in matching the pace either, not tired of life yet and no plans becoming a professional, but perhaps some of the car control - that's where the fun/challenge lies for me. Having lots of similar roads not very far off here helps too.

Nice one, ty! Anyone got details on the workings of the AWD system? https://youtu.be/IpHO5ibE5xE
Now red or black? Hm. Red I think .
Edit: video proof that a CVT version exists (as a concept)

Edit2: I think we need to come up with some sticker thanking Prius drivers for their contribution to Toyota's fleet emissions .

There are also alot of amateur rally teams here who will be excited to get hold of a Yaris with the potential it offers them for club level rallying, most of them are stuck using the 90's rally cars as a base as they have no good modern options. When stripped out of all the crap a modern car requires, one of these Yaris is going to be a substantially lighter 4wd rally car then almost all of the other options.
There is perhaps a more discerning group of buyers for a car of this type in Europe who will want the car for its rally pedigree. There have been no true homologation cars in over 20 years so these sort of buyers have been somewhat starved of options and probably miss the days they used to own homologation models in the 90's. Its likely they will be happy to pay more for the privilege than Asian buyers who mostly just see it as just a hot hatchback.

It's an interesting point. There are lots of deep pockets in amateur motorsport and people in rallying will look at this car as a potential for conversion to a competition car and not just a nice little road car to add to their collection after dropping £100k on a MkII Escort...
