This is why we can’t have nice things like merge in turn (full video for context, from 0.30 for action…)

https://youtu.be/UBJr3jn_BNI

This roundabout is a nightmare at peak times. I join from the business park, and people in lane 1 actively block you from merging for…reasons unknown. Or people get arsey because they think you’ve come down the dual carriageway in the ‘wrong’ lane. I try to strike a blend. It’s annoying when you get stuck high and dry as this then blocks other traffic.

I thought I was merging into a fairly neutral point, and indeed the cars in front ‘zipped’ at the merge point but no.

I’m a dhead who cut up the silver car, apparently.

If you're a dhead then so too am I, because I'd have done exactly the same if I knew the area like you obviously do.
I suspect by the vehicle placement, the van thinks you're a dhead too.

Don't see anything wrong with that - you were trying to merge in turn and they were too stupid to use the lane, tough titty for them.

The only thing I wouldn't have done is bother winding down the window, don't engage with stupid.

True. I had hoped for some form of understanding but yeah, you can’t educate pork. Technically the vehicles coming down the outside are in a right turn only lane so they are a bit wrong…. But it’s still two lanes until just past the roundabout.

Sometimes it would be absolutely perfect to have a well insured old Landy…

Well to a Daihatsu driver you probably are a dhead before you've done anything wrong anyway then!

What bugs me is when you think the other driver is dropping back slightly to let you merge, then just as you begin to move over they close the gap! Cretins.

Question for you…
Hypothetical situation whereby an HGV is straddling both lanes to prevent any other road users from driving up to the merge point. Suppose the HGV driver is doing this 600/800 yards before a merge in crawling traffic, actively swerving to prevent traffic from coming past. Would this attract the attention of the BiB, if they happened to witness it? Doesn’t have to be an HGV, but they’re the main culprits I see pulling this “trick”…

There's little need to even slow down for most crossings, they're not speedbumps. Infact some crossings are on 60mph roads.
Only a mindless imbecile would drive across a level crossing at anything even remotely close to 60mph.

Why not? There’s one near Thetford that you can drive across at pace. The majority of drivers that do drive over it at a fair whack must all be mindless imbeciles then. Odd though, nothing seems to happen.

The most depressing thing about these clips is the almost-uniform reaction of those in the wrong. No apology or raised hand. Just slam the brakes on and get arsed with the person you’ve cut up.

Your driving was faultless but you let yourself get dominated by a woman in a Hyundai i10 lmao. You absolutely should have forced your way in front of her.

My wife stalled on one just outside Oxford whilst a learner (the Yarnton one, if anyone knows it). I was remarkably calm, all things considered, and we got going just as the sirens started. The chap behind wasn't as calm. Not sure how frantically sounding his horn was going to help the situation, but he clearly thought it would. Mind you he had followed a Learner closely onto the crossing, so more fool him.

True story, still gives me the willies 30-odd years later...

rofl Correct. Hence the comment about the Landy… it would have been immensely satisfying to just crunch into it but I value my car and NCB too much wink

Personally, I’d probably light up the HGV to make it move. In marked cars I make a point of merging at an appropriate point to demonstrate proper use of the road space wink
