I've got a K11 Micra you can have for £5,000, saving you a job as they're already rare. It's got a full MOT too, which the Mondeo won't have by the time it's a classic. thumbup

Ah, but it won’t need an MOT once it’s a classic ;-)

Also another valid point is the K11 will use less fuel than the 220ST whilst parked up........am I doing this right?

I’m sold on this idea. There’s a shed-like Astra a few doors down. I’m sure it’s a rare shade of black. I’m going to have a word with the owner in the morning to see if I can buy it.

I’ll be a millionaire this time in ten years. Who’ll be laughing then?

Initial mistake, it is the Mondeo ST 200 and not the ST 220 that will be worth squillions in 2050. Your proposed plan of action the therefore falls at the first fence. frown But if you really want to rake it in, I saw a Chrysler Neon today, it was the first one I'd seen in years so it must be extremely rare, and so will be the place where the smart money is going next. Get in on the ground floor while you can.

Okay whether it be worth scrap in weight by that time and I lose £1100 or I make £thousands Im not really bothered as its a gamble to me and just like to know the safest places to park the car.

I can't afford to get insurance and this and that.

What's the law of parking SORN cars?

They must be kept off the road. So a private driveway or garage etc. Some private communal parking areas such as apartment buildings may have their own rules regarding the requirements for any vehicle parked there - including how much of an eyesore they might be - written into the terms of their lease.

The SORN rules are here:- https://www.gov.uk/sorn-statutory-off-road-notific...

You don't plan to keep it in a garage or on a drive, but I doubt a parking space outside a council block of flats qualifies as "private land". laugh

If you can get more than you paid for it I'd just sell it - you'll be dead long before it's worth £50K!

Does seem like a bit of a weird one really based on what they've posted on here so far.

Although, if they are real, i guess this thread gives some better background as to why they wanted advice on how to stop a car being towed / removed without their permission based on this thread.

Although still not legal, if a sorned car was parked on the road under a cover, the registration wouldn’t be visible......

Why not place such an appreciating asset in car storage, I’d insist on one with a low moisture controls to ensure it stays top notch, probs only £300 month - but will protect your investment.

The definition of a public place is important if it’s a council owned car park with access to the public then it would likely be classed as “ a road or other public place” and need to be taxed/MOT’d

What a ridiculous thread. It's a great car - get it MOT'd and taxed and enjoy the damn thing!!

As an aside, have a look for Sierra XR4s and XR4x4s for sale, as they are the equivalent of where your ST220 is likely to be in 30 years time. I'm pretty sure they aren't sought-after rarities worth £50k...

This situation has been discussed on PH a number of times. The way I understand it is if the public can use the car park ALL cars parked there have to be insured for third party risks.

Try ringing round the local self-store places - all the ones I've been in have had cars and sometimes boats etc in the loading bays. Alternatively, if there's some council lock-ups near where you are, try seeing if you can rent one of them. Both should be fine for a SORN'd vehicle & you'd probably get some form of insurance thrown in at the self-store place.
