Had a look at one before Christmas , salesman did his best to put me off regarding the cheap plastic inside before moaning about the nugget who’d specced it making the retail just over £40k and the resulting tax implications.

Pity , because the dragon thinks it’s a good looking car and fancied one as a change from what she’s got.

I was with you all the way until I read this line: I guarantee you there is nowhere on this planet your 3008 will take you that my A6 3.0TDi Avant Quattro won't! wink

wink I don't know. It depends on their respective amount of ground clearance I guess. I certainly won't rely on the amount of traction of the Peugeot, particularly on road tyres. It is not an off roader but the extra ground clearance is proving very useful where lower cars simply won't go. Peaslake I'm looking at you. laugh

Always hilarious when people on PH make judgements about other users' choice of wheels when they know absolutely nothing about the person or their circumstances, i.e. guy might have wife, kids, dog, etc and need a practical family car for everyday duties..Even Gordon Murray owns a Renault Kangoo, as I recall...

Not all of us can hack around in 2 seat sports cars as daily drivers! Personally I think anyone with a Renaultsport Megane in their garage doesn't have to justify their petrolhead credentials!!

The debate wasn't about circumstances, it derives from the statement that he found driving on roads boring so why bother buying a fun road car.

The counter-argument to that being: since we spend most of our time driving on roads, why not choose a car that will make that as fun as possible?

Two different perspectives, orthogonal to circumstances.

I have a Tiguan, it's 10 years old, tuned up and will leave the T rock in it's wake.

Looks like I’m one of those non driver nuggets who has not only bought a T Roc R but also spent over £40K on it too! I didn’t set out to spend that amount but I needed a car in a big hurry and this one was available there and then.
The T Roc R is never going to be to everyone’s taste but is there any car that is?
Yes, the thinking behind using hard interior plastics on a car like this is questionable to say the least.
The boot is not the biggest, especially with the space saver spare tyre.
I’m 6’3” and with the drivers seat set for me you’d be hard pushed to get anyone other than a small child sitting comfortably behind me.
But...you know what, I absolutely love it. I’ve only had the car a few weeks now (it’s not even run in as doing that is not considered essential during this COVID19 period) and I never give the hard plastics a second thought. My wife and I are at a stage in life now where the kids have up’d and gone, So as long as there’s enough room in the boot for a couple of holiday sized suitcases then we’re happy. And I’m also happy to move the seat forward on the rare occasion we’re travelling 4 up.
For some time now I’ve hankered after a Golf R. But the T Roc R piqued my interest when it launched last year. I spent a lot of time reading and watching reviews and the majority were positive.
Last month I test drove both. And I would agree that the Golf is certainly a driver’s car. But so is the T Roc. And yes, the Golf will undoubtedly beat it round the ‘Ring but i imagine there would be very little in it when it comes to a B road thrash. In reality how often does anyone drive “at the limit” anyway.
I would definitely recommend testing both if you’re in the market for a car of this ilk. I think you’d be pleasantly surprised at how well the T Roc goes.

did you also test the Audi SQ2? If so how did they compare? Interesting during my recent car buying exploits and SQ2 was on my list ( I ended up with a Q5!) the SQ2 seemed better value than the Troc R. A pre reg one could be had for £29k

Must admit, I didn’t try the Audi. I’d done a bit of research over a fairly lengthy period but just kept coming back to VW.
A strong contender was also the Mercedes A35 AMG. But as I’m not getting any younger I plumped for the slightly elevated driving position that the T Roc affords.
