Oh wow. What a shame.
I would be going back to whoever did the last rebuild (was it a well known Alfa specialist in Bedfordshire?) and see if they can do you a fair price to get it repaired. Assuming you would trust them to do it again.
Says in the article it was Autolusso in Houghton Regis who did the rebuildI would be going back to whoever did the last rebuild (was it a well known Alfa specialist in Bedfordshire?) and see if they can do you a fair price to get it repaired. Assuming you would trust them to do it again.

I'm sure Ned will see you right.

I had them do some bits on my old Alfa. Seemed OK, no more. I didn't get a lot of confidence from them to be honest. I had spoken to them - oil pump wasn't replaced during the "full engine rebuild" and they weren't that interested in helping out. They offered to sell me a second hand engine for the full price and would offer no discount on fitting the cambelt for me. I went elsewhere and paid slightly more for the engine out of principle.

Doesn't surprise me unfortunately. AutoLusso are best avoided if possible. I used them for small jobs but their general attitude from the "can't be arsed" type behind the counter onwards didn't inspire confidence. Having some rusty/worn looking used cars outside (at top money) just added to the sense of hopelessness. No way would I trust them for anything major doing. Jamie Porter would be a better bet IME.
