If you knew tyre legality in aviation you would never fly again.
I have a friend who works in aviation said similar a while back to me. Said if you knew how many stripped threads get Heli coiled, you'd never get in a plane again

I’m sure if you really boil it down, the people on here who say they’d replace a tyre unnecessarily at the drop of a hat are probably just attempting to demonstrate some financial superiority by conveying the impression that the cost of a new tyre is so insignificant to them that it’s an irrelevance.
Yes, I’m sure people are trying to impress you by claiming to have £200 of disposable wealth I suspect it’s more the case that the majority (including myself) do not regard themselves as tyre experts and reckon that for the cost of a tyre it’s worth it for the peace of mind to change it.

there arent any "laws" or regulations necessary telling an expierienced automotive engineer or technician that THIS tyre is a fail and DANGEROUS!!!
a reputable workshop would have even confiscated your keys unless you would have changed the tyre.
unbeliveable that people are asking such a non-sense here....and even start discussing about such a SAFETY -relevant issue!!
you should be reported to the police driving around with a ticking timbe-bomb!!

What a load of horse st in this thread. The tyre is perfectly legal mot wise as there is no cords showing you could have completely bald inner and outer edges and it still be a pass.
The chunk isn't that deep considering how thick the side wall is I wouldn't change that but keep an eye out for any cracks or bulges in the future.
Oh btw im a mot tester and mechanic.
Oh and apart from police and dot nobody can withhold a car from going on the road not even a mot tester.

Presumably you would agree that the MoT is the minimum standard for a vehicle to be on the road rather than what a responsible owner should aim for?Oh and apart from police and dot nobody can withhold a car from going on the road not even a mot tester.

I might be inclined to swap it to the back. And keep an eye on it.
Yeah ,cos the rear doesn't go at the same speed as the front.......Would I replace it? Yes I would.
Whether it is road legal or safe or otherwise I could not say as I am not an MOT tester, but for me I carry my kids in the car so take no risks. Even the TVR has the tyres changed with 3mm of tread left. Tyres and brakes are the two things IMHO you don't mess about with, they can be all that stands between you and a hedge.....
