Failing to inform the DVLA that your insurer has written off your vehicle can result in a fine of £1,000.

My brother had a classic Mini that was written off, he bought it back, fixed it up and drove it for a few years. He sold it and the bloke that bought it didn't get the V5 as it was marked as a cat B, by brother was told it was cat D when he bought it back. Not sure how it ended up, think the guy got it reclassified from a B to D.

You can probably just tax, insure it and carry on using it. When it's time to sell. export it.

I bought a Morgan that had been in an accident. The reputable Morgan dealer wrote on my receipt "Damaged for rebuild" I rebuilt the car with a new chassis and many other bits, I got it MOT'd and insured and drove it.
After 10 years I sold the car and later bought it back now 23 years have passed and many dealers have handled/sold the car.
Now 23 years later. I find it is a cat B. Can anyone help please as it is ridiculous situation.
