all these limits will be dumped when we are out of the EU proper, we have no incentive to stick to them and we wont. Remoaners are salty
The man from the the Goverment, he say 'wrong' (kinda)

'New vehicle registrations data and targets

Manufacturers will be set UK-specific targets which will be at least as ambitious as current EU CO? emissions targets. These targets will be set on the basis of their UK vehicle registrations.'

Rumors are that the new Jimny is being pulled from Europe because of its high polluting nature.

That's what is going to happen. Cars that have high co2 will get removed from sale. Simple.
It is having knock on effects here in Australia- because we have few or no such limits the car companies are withdrawing the latest, most fuel efficient engines as they are needed in countries with strict limits...

The Jimny should never have had that engine in it anyway IMO. The Co2 figures on it hammer Suzuki's average level pretty hard. So they sell 1 Swift hybrid @ 97 g/km and 1 Jimny Auto at 170 g/km and it hits them hard.

No wonder they're restricting (or just not building enough) supply! They need to get the 1.0 boosterjet in it and get it down to 130 g/km, or the 1.2 dualjet hybrid (which in a swift 4x4 scrapes 101 g/km)

Or just sell it in places like Australia/ India/ Indonesia where demand is strong and don’t yet have the same
pollution laws. Plenty of market specific models driven by regulation (eg all Kei cars) that don’t get sold in all markets

I reckon prices of Jag X types are going to go skyward, as will Chrysler 300C's, maybe even Rover 75's...

PH is just lovely, isn’t it
Always someone will turn motoring into politic and even worse, into a brexit fighting thread.
If we are signed up to commit those emissions I afraid not only SUV would be disappearing(personally love to see SUV gone) but I believe performance 2 seaters might be pull out as well.

Yep or even Japan where there is a huge waiting list.

Kind of defeats the whole object of trying to save the planet if other countries are gonna buy whatever they want anyway.

The emissions are set according to the average mass of the manufacturer so heavier cars (SUV) as a % of that brand will be allowed a higher overall emissions number.

Low volume brands get different treatment, so performance 2 seaters from say Morgan would be treated differently to say 2 seater sports cars from Porsche, but Porsche will have more money and resources to get their cars to meet emissions standards etc.

Well yes, take one look at India and it's enough to put you off even trying.

But every step helps etc etc

That’s a relief but that could mean, if we ever got a new S2000, GT86...those might not have a chance to come over to UK. frown

I reckon performance 2 seaters would be gone before say, 1250kg 130hp SUVs that return 45mpg average and emit 119g/km.

An intelligent post I agree with mostly.

I think the point is, we've all had enough of the smart arse snide comments made by both sides. Time for those to end.
Yep, totally agree. Both “sides” need to start to try to find things to agree on. That will require compromise. We can but live in hope!
Maybe everyone will agree it's an utter sh*tshow one day. Until then, I fear your hope is futile.

doubtless there'll be a fudge somewhere - just look at the previous load of unintended consequences with VW et al not just skirting a red line but wheel-spinning across it.

Well. Yes. NEDC was 'easy' enough to get around (look at VW etc), WLTP will take a bit more cracking, but as per anything, get anyone smart enough and throw enough money at it and manufacturers will find a way to hit what they're told to hit!

Who said we couldn’t survive?

As for those countries who we will make deals with that aren’t about protectionism, who are you thinking of? USA? China? Surely not.

Protectionism is on the rise globally. At the same time, we leave the biggest free trade area in the world.
If only it had stayed like that when we first joined rolleyes

I'll eat my hat bandit if we don't get a good or free trade deal with Europe, do you think the Germans want to stop selling us cars?

TX.

Don't forget, it matters not one iota what kind of deal the UK gets with the EU, the average will still be on UK only cars, so the basic point stands, car sales in the UK will be changing, probably for the worst, in terms of choice next year.

in other words we may start to see some sanity return to the UK car market?

More very fuel-efficient and electric vehicles with lower availability of thirstier models. Sane, but not really desirable for car enthusiasts

I’m hoping for this. Getting a bit sick and tired of this lowering the emissions trend. Maybe in the fantasy world they will reverse half the eu emission targets once they realise the negative economic impact because it won’t work well in the UK.
