Loeb....
Belgian...
He's only a 9 times World champion...... why would you expect a motoring forum to know such minor details as where the man comes from. Dear God.Belgian...
Quite like these just because they're a bit ugly and unconventional (like a proper Citroen should be) don't want one (even a warm one) but I like that they occupy a niche of "cars with alternative looks".
I had a VTS, in red no less, for my first car. It was a fun car to drive! Though the metal had a very palpable aura of thinness to it, the door clonked shut in a rather unsatisfying way, the electrics were indeed a bit wishy-washy and the gearshift was about as direct as Boris Johnson trying to get to the point.
Nonetheless, I’ve fond memories of that car particularly one evening when I came over all Loeb and narrowly avoided a terminal visit to a ditch

Nonsense, he's as French as Hercule Poirot, Audrey Hepburn and Tintin.
Umm...WTF were Citroen thinking of when they brought out the C2, did they model it on a shoe? Why is it so high up?
The VTS model used to mean something good until this generation of rubbish started coming from Citroen.
Take the excellent handing fun Saxo VTS, then style it on a shoe, and ruin it for everyone!

I had a VTS one brand new back in 2005, it was great for what it was.
One thing you have to remember with these is they were designed for a very specific market, with a deliberately low insurance group.
Back in the 1-20 insurance group days these were only group 8 compared to 13 for the Fiesta ST, that represented a significant saving for a young lad like I was at the time. It's not a competitor at all to a Clio 172/182 but it was never designed to be. The overall build quality and interior was a huge, huge step up from the preceding saxo too.

A mate of mine had one of these back in the day, compared to my 106 Rallye it did seem a bit lardy but the engine is a peach that loves to rev. I thought it looked better on the white wheels that (I thought) came as standard though. I don't remember that interior either, it seemed more upmarket at the time but then that was over 10 years ago now Must take my rose tinted specs off!
Looks like it's pretty decent on the bendsJackThrust said:

Spot on re the insurance according to the groups in the article scan aboveOne thing you have to remember with these is they were designed for a very specific market, with a deliberately low insurance group.

Oh boy, this takes me back. Had my C2 Loeb back in 08 until 2010 I think. Like the previous poster said it was aimed at folk that wanted a move up from entry level Clio's and Corsa's etc but anything above might have been too hefty for insurance when you are 19/20+. It was decent enough. Relatively light go kart feel to it. It was hardly anything of a pocket rocket but it was fun and it was what it was. Always liked the shape of it and went well with the blood red and black colour combo as well, particularly at night fall. Enjoyed the novelty of it being loosely based on the king of WRC, extremely loosely I may add! Always added led to my pencil known that being 19. Was definitely a thirsty little thing and don't bother waiting around when the petrol light came on or else you'll be bombed out at the side of the road trekking it to the nearest station buying a new petrol can. Two times : \ Did have a window wiper and ECU problem at one point but got that sorted under warranty. Then later on developed a 'every time I turn the wheel the horn would go off' problem as well. All adds to the experience, I guess. Seen it for sale on here about 2 years ago looking as fresh as ever.
These are cracking little cars for messing about in and reasonably cheap to run.
I've had a few of them including the diesels.
Problems are cam belts snap if not changed, gearboxes can give up under prolonged hard use, the bsi / ecu unit can play up causing various problems.
Front suspension top mountings are made of cheese !
This is a little steep price wise they can be got a lot cheaper !! they are not very sought after at the moment
These are being broken for parts like you wouldn't believe so disappearing fast !!
Don't forget the c2 code same car different interior trim.
As the article says great fun to throw around the lanes, not the fastest in a straight line but love to rev.
I'd recommend one as a cheap winter run around

Dear Tony Middlehurst ,
You write “to commemorate the mega-talented Belgian's return to the Citroen works rally team”, please, please, please…
Sebastien Loeb is probably the most successful driver of all the time: everyone mentions Senna, Fangio, Hill and the usual suspects… but how many drivers have won 10 World titles out off 11 entered? Who actually won 10 World championships…? Oh, 10 in a row… I guess he stopped a he got bored, as he could probably have won, 11, 12, 13 had he carried on… Remember what he did a pikes Peak a few years ago…? He finished over 40 second ahead of the guy who finished second…
I guess people do forget about him as he did not race F1s…. still, 10 World titles out off 11 entered,, 10 in a row… Move over Senna, Fangio, Schumacher, Hamilton…
Just for the little story, he did some testing in F1 and within a day was really, really competitive, enough to finish in the top 10 of a GP…
The guy is FRENCH, he is not from Belgium… He actually comes from Alsace, like me and this is where Bugatti is based….
It’s like calling Senna Argentinian or Hamilton Scottish…
