Hi all

Pretty simple really; which would you have? I know the cost of either seems a lot but would you rather take a new 2020 model (integrated dash instead of pop up one, slight changes to outward appearance, a few mod cons I’m sure I’ve not discovered etc) or save 10 - 15% per month and take the outgoing 2019 model?

Same principle would apply if you were spending £300 vs 340 pcm or 450 vs 500 pcm etc. It’s all relative. It’s only 10% for the newer, probably better version but that 10% would add up to a holiday or 3 over the pcp term.

Is the new one worth 2 or 3 holidays? There will still be some sort of break for the kids, but not as nice if disposable income reduced.

Or just drive around in my 2007 Mercedes ML 320 SE which is fitted out with every conceivable option, in perfect working order, totally unmarked and worth about five grand.

It is all mine and I go on holiday where the hell I want. Sorted for you.

Absolutely. Air suspension, tv, sat nav, all the usual of a 10 year younger high end car.

New job, company pay decent car allowance but needs to be new and shiny to take out clients when required I’m afraid

One man’s shed is another mans luxury car.

Nothing wrong with sheds. I could afford a new car but choose not to.

Good point though regarding the op wink

Distronic is what I was thinking of earlier.....

I know we are straying off topic but to buy one of these luxury super barges with full main dealer service history as I did can be a really good idea.

Car is now 13 years old. Has covered 145K miles of which I've done 50 in the last four years. Going by its full Mercedes service history it has had one front wheel bearing all it's life, everything else is just original. Just goes to show what the build quality was like then.

Most importantly for a comfortable drive, the interior is practically like new unlike the leather on my TVR which is like paper!

More importantly to the OP. Buy what you like within the company budget, whatever you fancy. Will there be much of a difference in the tax burden? If you are a big hitter that isn't gonna make any difference, I'd go for the newer car.

That’s impressive for a 13 year old car!

Thanks gents.

Long story short, it looks like drive the deal . Com have some amazing offers - 22% off 2020 model Q7 and 28% off 2019 models (both brand new no former keepers).

For the money no other dealer or manufacturer gets close.

I’m thinking I’ll take a gamble; I want to 50TD motor and pref S-line trim or above. They currently have some 45TD in s line 2019 or 50td s line in 2020. I’m thinking I’ll hold out for 6 weeks and hope either prices drop further before the end of Q1 as VAG group sales are down, and maybe even find a few 2019 50TD comes out of the woodwork with bargain prices.

If I was VAG I’d be selling low spec old models cheaply first, then mid spec, then if I still needed sales I’d reduce prices of my remaining stock. So, there are better things to come I guess. That’s the gamble.

The original question is wait for TD50 2019 a lines to become available (there may not be any and I miss out), wait for 2020 ones to become cheaper (again may miss) or accept that I can either have a 45TD sLine 2019 for 6k less than the 2020 version, or 11k less than a 2020 50TD s line.

Is the new model worth 6k?

Depends on whose 6k it is.
If its mine I say no.
If its works then I say get it spent.

53K when new back in 2007. Metallic brown with a green sparkle which is rare.

Back in the days when the sun shined!

Now that I've stopped working I'd be tempted by a V8. No work miles = low mileage = who cares !

As above if it's my money then I'm pocketing the 6k if work are paying then 2020.

In the OPs shoes I'd go for the newer car. OK, there will be a 2021 car soon, but the 2019 will feel "old" straightaway.

If I understand this correctly it is pre vs post facelift, in which case I'd happily pay 10 percent more for the newer car assuming I actually prefer it (the options/new design/tech etc).

I like the pre-FL Q7 better, especially because of the retractable screen and classy interiour without annoying screens everywhere.
The screens will look nasty unless cleaned 3x/day.
