My £65k car costs me just over £600/mth, but will depreciate £800-1000/mth over the 4yrs of the lease. And I'll save £2000 in RFL.
Maybe he is talking about owning the car will cost £1200pm and fir you to rent will cost £600 but his car will be worth something at the end.

I think cars often feel quicker from the passenger seat.
True but there is also a chasm in terms of pace between a good road driver and any track instructor.

This tbh. Although not having the wheel to hold onto probably does add to the drama, I’d never been in a car with a pro driver and it opened my eyes to what the car could really do! Also decided to drop torrential rain on my outing driving the car which didn’t help and reinforced when the car in front had an off into the barrier on clay hill...

Agreed. Sadly BMW stopped being a builder of premium performance cars a long time ago. Now they are nothing more than a competitor for Ford, Vauxhall, or any other mass market car.

True, and Mercedes and Audi are in the same white goods camp as BMW and have been for years.

Clever marketing though getting 'aspirational' buyers/mugs to pay more for a mainstream product which in their delusion they seriously consider to be premium lol.

This, to an extent. They are very, very much mainstream, certainly compared to when they were more premium products 20+ years ago. They are, generally (not always) nicer cars than cheaper alternatives though. Be that the way they drive or the interior etc. I'm not saying they're amazing, but I'm saying that, for example, I think the interior on a new 5 series is nicer than a Mondeo (having been in both).

Being mass market and premium is not incompatible.

When you look at the engineering involved, they are definitely premium. Have a look at the rear suspension kinematics or the engine mounts of a 3 series for example and then compare to those of a Vauxhall. They probably have had to cut corners somewhere else like the thickness of the carpet so I can see why some, for whom those things matter more than bits they can't see, may think they're not premium.

What do they have that compares to M2, 3, 4 and/or 5?

If you read the post I was replying too you might see it wasn’t my £60k car or my money

smile
I didn't say it was....but a £60k on finance will not cost you £1200/mth unless you are even more naive than someone that pays list price with cash wink

Earthdweller said:
The difference is that if you save and pay you have £60k

If you buy it on finance then all you can afford is around £50k

To have that £60k car now will cost you £1200 a month on finance and cost you £72k .. so you pay £12k to the bank for the privilege of having it now

It doesn’t mean it’s unaffordable or wrong .. but having it now comes with a cost

Maybe. My car will be worth c£20-25k after 4yrs. So if I really wanted it, I could buy it at that level, meaning the total outlay was something around £50k, for a car than cost £65k new.
