Oh, I see.

So you're doing 25 when 30 is clearly possible. Why can't your car do 30? Do you only have two gears or something? I drive at the speed limit when the engine is cold, and won't do over 3000rpm until the engine is at 90C.

I get the feeling you're doing it to annoy others because you have a highly tuned turbo and want to make a point.
I suspect that it is "understanding others" that is the issue.

The references to "M car" are a bit odd.

Tonyvid you been stalking me mate lol I’m stage 2 on a stock turbo if you know anything about the stock turbos you’d know there about as useful as chocolate teapot. Problem is this an occurring theme my previous M car got the same treatment, and when I drive my runaround and Mrs car I get no grief whatsoever. Never in the slightest. Soon as someone sees something abit tarted up there instantly on to you
smile I was curious as to what you are driving - Seriously, any fragility only comes in when using the the last 150bhp of your map so just drive normally using the first 75bhp when cold and things will be fine(ex owner of a mapped SAAB 9-5 and 280k miles with absolutely no issues)

If the person in front is travelling at the posted limit, then there is not much else that someone behind should could legally expect them to do.
It is the dawdlers who represent a bigger problem on the roads. And to use the old saying `If you cant stand the heat etc.
I agree, as some have posted here, whether a person gets tail gated or not, even when they are travelling at the posted limit can sometimes depend on what car they are driving.
The seven has a particular problem in this, in that there is only about 3ft of car behind the driver, and most of that is fuel tank, so a tailgater in this instance is particularly annoying.
However it is one thing getting a speeding ticket, fine, points on your license, and increased insurance costs, getting caught speeding when `you' wanted to be speeding, but something completely different when you get the same, for reacting to or accommodating a d*ck head who thinks it is OK to travel a few feet off the rear of your car.

Hoofy not at all, 30 limit means do not exceed 30, doesn’t mean you religiously have to travel at 29.99 does it. I get the point some of you are making, I’m not travelling like a slug here, I’m talking about a few mph below the limit, cold or not cold. My rant is purely based on setting off first thing in the morning. It’s uncalled for, people have this idea in your head that if the limits 40 you must go 40 and above, and if the roads clear you have to make up some ground and even speed

It seems every journey to work (24 miles up a B road one way, same on way back) I’m being tailgated badly. I sit at the speed limit leaving a reasonable and ‘correct’ amount of room in front, usually in a long line of cars, yet someone is always practically in my boot. So much so I’m leaving an hour earlier than I need to so they are fewer cars on the road.

Especially bad in 30 zones, I slow and a lot of the cars sod off in front because they do 40 odd - I get pushed along and the offender sits there incredibly close.

I wonder if some people aren’t doing it maliciously, they just think that’s how to drive and cannot judge distances/speed. Most of the time I just want to sit at the speed limit, not at a million miles an hour.

It boils my p**s and I’m not actually sure how long I/my health can stand it - maybe that says more about my anger management (lack there of).

And don't drive until your windows are clear. You will get pulled over irrespective of the speed you're doing.

Tailgating happens to me whilst I'm driving a 14yo Fiesta or a big estate car. Maybe the Fiesta 1.4 looks fast?

I don't often get beeped and flashed at.

Mcbodge ofcourse I defrost my windows before setting off, which car do you know that instantly does this in the middle of winter? I’m most cases you have to actually set off and drive the car for any real heat to be created in the fan! By M car I was referring to a e93 m3.

Come on, if it's a 30, you know everyone will expect you to do 30 give or take 1mph. You stated you do 5mph under the limit. That's 25 and if it's a clear road and safe to do so, then doing 25 is going to get people's backs up.

55 in a 60 (single carriageway, national speed limit signs) is fine, because it's a smaller percentage down from the limit.

(And yes, I will try to do exactly the speed limit if it's safe to do so unless it's a NSL.)

You drive to defrost your windows?

So the M Car wasn't a Matiz?

Tonyvid, FairPlay mate 280k out of mapped Saab- wow! Unfortunately they don’t build them bulletproof like they used to. I have 550ft lbs come in at 3000 revs so you can understand my concerns for driving at 5mph less then the speed limit in the first 10 mins of driving in the morning

Yesterday, early AM someone in a generic Asian crossover thing pulled out on me on an otherwise quiet A-road.

As I was in a large van I ended up fairly close to them from not wanting to completely stand on the brakes well loaded.

They didn't like this and started braking at random, once they'd managed to get up to about 50.

They proceeded to tailgate the absolute fk out of the car in front for the next ten miles.

Hoofy I have to disagree, whilst I break speed limits like eveyone else does, I’m not so keen on doing this first thing in the morning, and if I have to go abit slower, then I will. Doesn’t give someone the right to speed up to my rear end just because I’m not going 29mph. Mcbodge did I say m3, oops I meant micra smile

I enjoy coasting down to painfully slow speed watching them getting uppity then flooring it. Childish I know but it is fun.
I also enjoy sticking to the 20mph limits in the city center at least a couple of times a week I will have some nutter apoplectic with rage behind me. I just let them get on with it.

I'll try to be more constructive...

What would a difference of 5mph actually do to your car?

I suspect sweet FA

I was doing some speed or other in a 20 the other day at 7am (really quiet road, no kiddies around), and had a Yaris (!) so near my back end I couldn't see his lights. So I adjusted to 20 specially for him. Rage rage rage.
