Major service, which is exactly the same scope of work, on daughter's SEAT Ateca, is £299 using SEAT's fixed pricing. OK, it's not the same car, but no reason the work / costs should be significantly different, and I doubt the above system has the detailed data to know anyway.
I would imagine their dealer price is a complete guess.
What is a Seat agent’s hourly labour rate? I know it is VAG so it could be high but to be fair the brand is not what they would see as their top flight German boasts. In excess of 100quid, which is what Merc charge?
I wouldn’t expect it to be bang on the penny, but I have checked Land Rover, Merc, DS and if anything the dealer price estimates on are very slightly light compared to forum reports from other mugs that have used main agents for grease monkey ability servicing on the self-proclaimed high end German or LR “specialist” marques. DS was was not that expensive through the main agent, but Merc and LR - just crazy prices.

Wife having a Merc with four spark plugs, trust me, it is pretty much right, (I believe the A250 is a six pot).
We know it’s wrong as the OP was quoted £820. Even his indie price was £500.A250 is 4 cyl.

Yes indeed, his quotes are way over the top as some posters have suggested on here and as I showed with the Smercs outfit that does the missus’s - £180 Assyst A, £280 Assyst B. Fits with my experience and reports of Merc main agents too, totally variable (but high) price and quality depending on the individual agent. All that glass and chrome in the showroom won’t clean itself. And yes, I stand corrected on the number of cylinders, really don’t follow recent euroboxes.

As said before, that’s just the basic service price. Add in plugs, air filter and brake fluid (all required at 4 yrs) and Smercs price will be ~£500 too.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
