This doesn’t make sense.

If you sit in a priority seat on a train, and someone gets on that needs it, you can see them and move.

But if you park in a family or priority space and leave your car there, you’ll have no idea if someone needed it.

Even if there are tonnes of spaces and it’s very unlikely they’ll fill, anyone thinking it’s fine for them to use a space designed to help someone else tells us all they have a high sense self importance and entitlement that is laughable.

Use the ability to walk easily you were gifted by not being a self entitled twit and park a little further away.
See the bit about where I only use them when there are lots available.

Unless suddenly every parent and kid within my postcode decides at that exact moment to all go shopping, I think I'll be fine. Having done this the odd time (and it really, really is the odd time), I've not once returned to my car (after the 10-15 min of shopping which i do, practically running round there in order to exit as soon as possible), I have not once returned to find the huge availability of parent and child spaces to have changed in any way.

So tell me sir, what would do in a situation where rows and rows of normal spaces are full (to 100% capacity) and there are two whole rows of parent and child spaces with a single lowly SUV parked up? Would you turn around and go home? Like fk you would.

Markyb! No need for the anger!

I didn’t go that far back in your conversation before I chimed in, which you can see from what I quoted.

Whilst I struggle to imagine how every single parking space could be full and tonnes of parent spaces are free, and while I’d personally rather look for a single empty space down the far end of the car park than park in a space meant for families. What I would do in that unlikely event, is park in a family space so that I could get out of my car, find out who designed the car park and allocated such a disproportionate amount of family spaces and burn their house down.

Why cant supermarket car parks just have disabled bays etc and large general parking zones without lines? then drivers can space themselves out according to car size, maybe some dashes to guide parking direction for the thicker motorist.

biggrin

Good answer, and one that with regard to the particular sainsburys car park (and honestly the only car park) where this is a problem for me, would be a completely valid thing to do.

Forgive my anger but your indirect way of suggesting I'm an entitled twit triggered me smile I'm really not. This is a last resort thing and I 100% would always take a normal space over one of these and would never create a situation where Mrs Yummy Mummy and Little Timmy in their leased SUV would have to go without.

Tell you the truth I'm regretting even mentioning it at this stage. I should have known better, this is PH and I should know that the pitchforks are always being sharpened in the background, just begging for an opportunity. I gave it.

Careful, there be dragons.

Asking people to think for themselves is unfortunately for many, beyond their capabilities.

Yes you expected me and all the other PH’ers to be reasonable. Which was very unreasonable of you.

But now were on the same page, I’m happy to bring my pitchfork and we can find this car park designer together.

Who’s with us?!

I suspect that unlike many on Pistonheads that for the majority of motorists, their car is just another ticked box in their white goods line up, so they don't care about them the same way as a normal piston head would.
Of course some of them are just aware enough to realize that not all cars are the same, but only in the same way they might be aware that a Smegg fridge freezer is likely to be different to a Candy fridge freezer. People don't tend put a lot of care or effort into something they don't really understand or care about.

Fancy that ... yet another moral absolutist on PH. Who'da thunk it.

Honestly, I don't really give two fks what you think, you don't run the supermarket, you're not the police. You're just a narrow-minded person on a forum that can't appreciate a bit of common sense. Just another robot member of the public.
I guess it’s good you don’t care about people calling you a self obsessed wker to your back in the car park and on here then!!

Sucks and blows to be like you.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt in life, it’s that no matter what you do, no matter what your level of consideration for others is, there is always those that will find a way to judge, criticise or dislike you. I’m not going to apologise or lose sleep over what people think of me.

That said, the moment I find I’ve unintentionally inconvenienced a parent a child by my actions, I’ll happily apologise and eat humble pie to them.

Bunch of people on a forum who can’t see reason and logic, looking for a battle of words.... yep, you guessed it, don’t care smile

That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to hold and air it.

As you’re not me though, it really isn’t worth much is it?

I on the other hand quite enjoy my life.

In other words the great unwashed uneducated & downright ignorant.
Usually their cars, themselves & I suspect their homes reflect their attitude to life things & people. Often dog lovers and/or have bred like rabbits.
Just be thankful if such 'things' don't live near you.

Nobody can say that I wasn’t honest with you.

It’s the first stage of getting you over the denial that your opinions matter.

What does that even mean?

I’ve not denied that my opinions matter and I don’t want or need your help with “getting me over” anything.

Calm down, take a few deep breaths, think before you type and maybe proof-read before you hit submit.

I honestly have better things to do than argue with a stranger on the internet over something that I’ve maybe done 3 times in my life and I’m completely at peace with.

On that note, I will say...

Have a great weekend byebye

Clearly you have misunderstood.

So for your clarity, your opinions don’t matter at all. That’s the whole point.

Parked in an empty car park yesterday to take the little one for a walk. As it was empty I wasen't very careful and left the wheels on the white line which is unlike me. Thought it'll hardly matter in a car park of 50 spaces with no-one around. Anyway, return to find only one other car, a citreon suv parked equally bad adjacent to me so that i cannot open the back door fully to insert child into seat easily. What is wrong with people. One person around was a obese man kicking ball with his son about 50 yards away. Made a point of glaring at him, he looked back with a blank looking stare. They walk among us.

I parked my car at the end of a row the other day. Bushes on the passenger side so I parked more that way to leave a bigger gap between my car and the adjacent space.

When I got back to the car there was a hatchback properly jammed in next to my drivers door, wheels on the line. I commented to my mate that the parking was st and wondered how they had actually got out (and how I’d get back in) when a woman standing next to the hatchback said “I had to climb out of the passenger side, do you want me to move it?”

Yes, she had parked so close that she couldn’t get out of the drivers door so had to get out of the passenger side, but at no point had thought to move the car!

Someone did that across me when I was picking up my then 9 month old son from nursery, same thing, i made my space as big as possible by putting my passenger side against a hedge, when I got back the silly cow had dumped her Polo at a stupid angle next to my rear driver side door, and there I am with a small child that cannot yet walk (I think it was raining or at least very cold), i'm near to a main road, I can't get him into the child seat, I can't get into the drivers seat whilst he's in my arms and I'm stood there trying to work out if I can stick him in the boot whilst I move the car to get access to the rear door........
