RE: 2020 Jaguar F-Type R | Driven
Discussion
I also much prefer the previous car. I think the new one lacks the character of the original despite obviously being a much better package as a whole. I think they've been overly reliant on standard Jaguar styling cues, and I don't think the headlights suit the car, much in the same way I don't think the AMV8 headlights work. Very boring choice of wheels too, which seems the norm with Jaguar.

Would someone select RWD over AWD because they'll slide it round round-a-bouts, or to just make out to people they do?
Surely AWD is the better option in the UK, where it rains more than it's sunny?
If you need AWD to drive safely you should save your money and buy something less powerful with FWD!Surely AWD is the better option in the UK, where it rains more than it's sunny?
So, if the gist of the article is that the F-type is now more of a GT car, then the very poor luggage space starts to become a big issue, especially for the convertible.
Always felt Jaguar weren't quite sure what they were actually aiming to build when they developed this car and so, perhaps unsurprisingly, they missed. That said, if you don't want a Porsche, there's not a lot around at £75k at the moment.
Strange.

I think the front end is boring. The "eyes" of this cat have been ruined in my opinion. I've had 2 XKRs in the past and I have experience with big supercharged Jags and lots of love, but this doesn't do anything for me as the look just puts me off. If I had to pick any F-Type, it would be the 400 Sport in coupe form; this is the best looker in my opinion, with the older headlight but newer front fascia and then those perfect alloy wheels.

I've had RWD before, and tried other RWD cars. BMW being the worst I tried. In just drizzle the traction control lights was flickering like a candle in the wind, and the power kept getting cut. Felt absolutely Horrible.
AWD just make driving in all conditions more accessible. Gaps in traffic when getting oit of a junction with AWD is never an issue.
But as others have said, it's a preference thing. I just wonder how many people pick RWD just to be seen as a driving god power sliding about everywhere, when the reality is they are scared to death of it in the wet.

In current conditions with slightly worn rear tyres and TC off, the BMW is very sideways indeed...
But I am a driving God of course
I like it. However, I would probably never buy one as if I wanted a two seater sports car, I would prefer a smaller, lighter, more nimble type of sports car. Glad that it is still being made though so that people have options.
And yes, 4.5k for that paint! Crikey! Nice colour though.

Whilst I've always loved F-Types and I think the facelift looks great (in the right colour), I just can't imagine ever spending so much on one.
I know you can't compare apples to oranges and all that, but you can get a 17 plate SL65 with it's glorious 6.0L twin turbo V12 (621bhp/1000nm) with 7k on the clock for 'just' £91,950. I know which I'd rather have!

You know what? I agree! I have always had a soft spot for the SL, BUT Merc has just let it go with not bothering to update the interior and keeping the rear end of the SL almost EXACTLY the same since the R230 model from 2001!!I know you can't compare apples to oranges and all that, but you can get a 17 plate SL65 with it's glorious 6.0L twin turbo V12 (621bhp/1000nm) with 7k on the clock for 'just' £91,950. This car, the SL, has heritage going back to the 1950s and THAT is something truly special.

Maybe I just drive really slowly but I don’t recognise that statement re RWD cars... yes the TC light will flicker if you take liberties but never in just drizzle. Anyway, back on topic I quite like the facelift as well. It’s still a good looking car and you have the option of that thunderous V8. I wouldn’t buy one but I still like it.
