Really like the look of the new front end but I’m still waiting for my numbers to come in and this will be straight on my drive...

The first time I drove an F type was probably the most wrong I have been in pre judging a car. It was my bosses car who I drive for. It was about 4 years ago in a soft top V8S. I’m closer to 50 than I’d wish to be and grew up on a staple diet of RWD performance cars. It was also an era of jag convertible = boulevard cruiser or GT at best.
First twist of the F Type key and all hell breaks loose, aurally and physically , feeling the torque twist through the seat when revving the engine stationary.
Out onto the road and it was more full on with quick steering , stiff suspension, poor traction and pretty hair trigger throttle... cue the big silly grin, didn’t expect that. After the first proper cross country drive alone and pretty rapidly I arrived at the destination knowing I’d had a workout and probably taken longer than the bosses super suv would of taken for the same journey and I would have not have a hair out of place.
Trying to drive quickly , as fun as it was , was quite dangerous at times!
So as for a great gt car ... I beg to differ.

I have never really gelled with how they drive. They feel heavy and big. It sounds like it has been improved but also reading between the lines, probably not enough to take on the sharper opposition from Porsche. Night and day difference in depreciation also which is not exactly unimportant. Nice V8 sound and a decent place to be for cruising around. Definitely a lot more Merc (as noted by a few already) than 911 and comparing it with an SL makes a lot of sense. I’ve only driven the AMG GTC out of the GT range and there are some similarities but the GTC has much sharper handling and body control.

I agree with that. But that's JLR's (crap ?) management for you. Again. They think the F-Type is a competitor to 911 et al. Production levels are so low I'd imagine the less F-Types JLR makes the less money they'd lose on each one. So, why not cut production, concentrate on a decent set of SVO-inspired options and pump out just the V8 for as long as the Bridgend contract lasts ?
If they must keep the 4-pot for economies of scale, then fine. But pricing the F-Type into a segment where the 911 kicks ass is bloody stupid. But then again, this is the crew that gave us a convertible 'rallye' F-Type a year or so ago....

Replacement head lights
Replacement arch protection
Exhaust Cam
O2 sensor
Various squeaks and rattles
Engine Management light illuminations (for various reasons)
Excessive vibration at idle
+ others
I was torn between the F-Type and Cayman when I bought it but went against my head because of the looks of the F-Type. In the process of rejecting the car with the dealer at the moment. It's probably just a lemon rather than reflective of all F-Types but it has put me off Jaguars.

Have you heard many other owners with similar issues? I really am surprised as I've been doing my homework on these for a while now and one of the only regular grumbles I hear is 'Really don't like the P Zero tyres'.

Heard of the same issues but not all on the same car. I don’t think the 2.0 Ingenium has much headroom built in so lots of issues across all cars with it fitted. Think the V6 and V8s are better though.Have you heard many other owners with similar issues? For contrast I had a V6 and did 30k in it, only issue was the sat nav got itself in a tizz once; turn off and back on again sorted it. A lot of people seem to forgive a lot of the cars build quality issues (British built, low volume etc etc) and I probably would if it wasn’t off the road so much!
Lovely cars. Not a fan of the facelift so guess I’ll not be buying new again but my wallet will thank me for that anyway!

I've always thought the same as well in fairness. It is mad that a 2 seater can weigh so much for sure. I guess that the big engine/auto gearbox/4wd don't help, but I'd still expect it to weigh less than it does though. I bet Porsche love it though...because it helps to make the 911 seem a tiny bit lightweight in comparison.
I saw the facelift in the metal today, and I think it looks really nice. Much more purposeful than the old one without being aggressive.
This one was dark blue though which to me at least, is always a good colour.
As an aside, I've seen a lot of the new defender as well, and think they have made a good job of modernising it, but that's a different conversation entirely

Had a bit of fun in this one on the mountain roads nearby and, for what it's worth, I think the facelift is a real improvement and manages to make the old car look a little heavy-handed. That car's face dates back to 2011, so it was, by modern standards, pretty ancient.
I'll admit to finding the facelift a little generic-looking the first time I saw it in pictures, but I reckon it really works in the metal. That's just my .02c anyway.
