I assumed that the question about me eating out was trying to provoke the answer that I eat at establishements with 3 Michelin stars every evening in order to allow a "hah, gotcha!" from the questioner... or possibly that I answer that I eat out only at Hungry Horse to demonstrate that I am, in fact, an oik.

We are not talking about a Rolls Royce Phantom, although that would be even more of a pain to drive and park in London.

At one time an expensive car would be more reliable and much more comfortable and luxurious. Normal cars were often primitive.

It's not really about the "luxury" or "comfort" nowadays. Many normal other cars are luxurious -most modern cars have more features than you can shake a stick at, and many are not in any way uncomfortable or unreliable.
So are you saying that a Bentley isnt any more comfortable and luxurious than a new but much cheaper car? Say something like a focus or a mondeo?
So MC, what's your reply?
?

As I said how many other cars have double glazing ?
Air suspension ?
Real wood , everything covered in leather not just the seats .I mean everything.....,door jams , centre console , rear parcel shelf to name a few .

Everything is either leather metal ( switches ) or real wood .
With the woods you can spec extra woods .

Just a nice place to be .
My old ls400 had a wonderful cabin that looked like plastic wood and plastic but was, in fact, beautiful wood and stitched leather dash etc. Wonderfully tactile once you realised!! So, I get you on that one. Beautifully refined car, the most refined I have owned, but I shop at the basement bargain end of the store....

I have an LS460 which is more refined than the 400.....it's a nice old thing. Some may say excessive with a 4.6 V8.....but it ain't no Bentley.

So how much do you spend when you eat out?

It depends where I go. I generally eat at home. My wife is an excellent cook and we eat healthy, varied meals.

Hence I said most refined car I have owned. Nowhere did I compare it to the Bentley which I am sure is a different league. I was merely suggesting I understood the posters point about a nice, restful cabin and refined drivetrain. Jags were much nicer to sit in than the ls, but nowhere near as restful or refined strangely. I will not own another big barge until I can afford another Lexus!! My old ls spoilt me.

My biggest problem with the Bentley, and the big Rolls SUV is they are soooo ugly. Ugly every day and twice on a Sunday. I saw the lambo SUV outside a Tesco the other day and it wasn't much better to be fair

It's odd how OP starting this discussion focusing on the financial justifications for a Bentayaga, but then quickly changed the discussion into carbon footprint.

I can afford a Bentayaga, but wouldn't buy one, simply because I don't want one. OP, step back a few paces and realise if you can afford one, you want one (and therefore buy one), you don't 'need' one. Ultimately it seems you are unable to place yourself into the shoes of a person who is able to afford 10 or 20 Bentayagas. If you had that much money, even if you didn't want one you might get one anyway, just because you can!

Hello mate
An ex-neighbour has a huge old Lexus, it must be what 20-25 years old easily. I think they’re made of cast iron or something it never breaks down, probably worth £800 but incredibly reliable and possibly the best used luxo barge out there. I wouldn’t shy away from buying one if I wanted one

Re the big SUVs being ugly you’re not wrong. They looks so vulgar and coarse. I’m not sure how Range Rover avoids it it must be their heritage in the segment. If I had all the money in the world my SUV would be a FFRR if some sort and not in bloody purple either!

Unexpected?

See them almost daily. The similarly sized RRS/FFRR is extremely common in London for people with a pretty penny to spend.

I guess the point is (for a fella) showing wealth, showing off and attracting like-minded puffy lipped women?
For a girl - showing other yummy mummies how successful you are and attracting the guy with tattoos and Gucci trainers.

Seem pretty compelling reasons to me!
How really sad is that.
We all come with nothing and go with nothing yet some feel the need to actually try to show they have money. In reality though it's mostly those who dress in baggy trousers, jacket with elbow patches and those that drive around in a rusty nondescript car who have the real money. The others it's all pcp and finance, that's what the others are showing, how much they're in debt..
The man with a profile which says...

Cayman 3.4S gen1.
23k miles, never been used in the wet.
10k options when new Inc turbo alloys

I had a 400 for a while, gold with beige leather rofl

It was fun in a very big and reasonably quick way again, parking was a PITA tho!

The boot was HUUUGE too

Mine was that colour also, almost a silver/champagne colour. It DID get under my skin but I only realised how special it was once I had sold it.
