I’ll have a W205 C 63, thank you very much. And preferably not an Estate, this “Fast Estate” concept has become fully council.
Disagree. A fast estate is still cool. SUVs are closer to council.

Skoda vRS 245bhp from mid to high £20k after discount.

The cars in this test would be hard-pushed to lose an enthusiastically driven vRS.
I love the optimism that half as much power again wont make much difference, I dont think people buy them based on their ability to lose a Skoda.

Not sure there are many left now but prices were great last summer. I got a new one with the dsg for less than £22k direct from a dealer.

hehe

The vRS is a fine car (I had one for four years) but it’ll feel like a step down power wise and inside.

We owned a S4 B8 estate which incidentally was one of the most boring cars I've ever driven. Smelt nice on the inside mind. Chopped it for a low mileage vRS with a Revo remap. In real world driving terms the Skoda feels as quick.

What a bunch of miserable sods (at least the first page of comments!)

BMW and Audi give you a pair of handsome, fast, fuel-efficient, capable, limited-slip-diff-endowed wagons, and all people can moan about are minor, highly subjective design preferences!!

I think both of these look like they’d be fantastic mile munchers! I’ll be looking out for one from a decent rental co next time I’m in Europe.

Some folks could really do with a cheering up.

But the point stands, the article is all over the place.

I get that being a journo is tough. That not everyone can do it. It's not easy to remain fresh and interesting. But I do expect a modicum of ability before writing articles for the UKs largest motoring website!

I'm sure the bmw is a great drivers car but if I were paying with my own real money I'd question does it really deserve the £8k premium over the audi. No matter what tax bracket you're in £8k is a lot of money. Granted 80% of sales for either will be on Pcp deals so I guess it comes down to who offers the best finance package. For me though I'd be thinking with the £8k I save on the audi I could buy a half decent drivers car like an e46 m3 and would be able to justify the second vehicle because of the saving I'd make feeding the oil burning s4. Just my opinion tho.

For the third and hopefully final time, the prices of both cars are wrong! BMW list price is about £1K more than the S4.

Because most people on this page of late are just bitter for one reason or another.
Very odd.

Faces only a mother could love. Gone are the days of the sophisticated looking Audi's and BMW's of the 80s and 90s.

Where is the conclusion to which is best?
It's the equivalent of a 12 round boxing match which ends with both fighters going back to the dressing room without a decision.

Lots of comments about the journalism, writing style and typos. These guys are motoring enthusiasts first, journos second. And they're trying to knock out articles to tight deadlines. Appreciate it that we've got some good free car content that we can also add to with our comments. I've been on this site for years, love it.

The "NC" byeline is probably Nic Cackett, who does have a certain reputation in this area...

You won't get either of these from European rental companies, why would you want one anyway, hire cars are purely from getting from a to b.
Our customers (Nerja, Malaga Province) only ever specify a car re seats/luggage space.

Re 'handsome' these are certainly not. Council estate cars yes but not handsome..

Well I am going to look at it positively...
Looking for a rapid diesel estate to do 25k miles pa - therefore diesel really the only viable option...

Have narrowed it down to 330D Xdrive Msport + or the new S4.
Having read this article- pretty much made my mind up on S4. Unless BMW put the X3 M40D engine into the touring...?

As somebody else pointed out - no indication of adjustable dampers and diff on Audi configurator?
