Madness, no matter how different it is, £82k for an A4

You could get a second hand R8 for less

......£82k for a run of the mill main stream car?
This thread seems to be inciting a great deal of stupidity. Whilst £82K is of course toppy, it's hardly 'run of the mill' now, is it?
It's an Audi, of course its a run of the mill make, no different to Ford or Vauxhall. Every s got one..
Is an R8 run of the mill? I would say the Audi brand are very much run of the mill, but I don't think the R8 is, as a car.

Can a car be considered run-of-the-mill or 'main stream' if it's £82k? Hardly used Insignia money.

OK, let me try and explain in simple terms.

As you can see above, you said '......for a run of the mill main stream car'.

I would of course agree that Audi is a main stream car brand (which is what I suspect you meant). However, the RS4 is clearly not a run of the mill version of that main stream brand, is it? That would be an A4 1.4 TSFI or some such, surely?

BTW - your comment of 'every s got one' suggests there's a little chip resting on your shoulder.

Hey ho, it takes all sorts.

80k for an Audi RS4? fk off.
The original RS4 was approx £47k back in 2000. Adjust that for inflation and it's now the exact equivalent of £80k in today's money. The standard current RS4 can be had for a mere £64k. That's cheap compared to the old car from year 2000. Plus you can pay monthly these days.
Bingo!

The B7 was 60k in 2007. That's 84k now or thereabouts.

They've always been expensive. But if you wait a few years they're 20-30k to buy. Just don't ignore the fact that it's an 84k car when it comes to looking after it smile

PS And drive one...the B7's an awesome car. Well worth the price. Consider selling mine now and then, but can't really think what to replace it with...started thinking B8...but then the B9 is coming down in price and possibly a notch forward (though unlikely to be so in involvement)....RS6 is a bit big...Stelvio QF - hate "sport SUVs" usually but saw one in a hotel and thought it looked great. Meant to go well too...and then I get all green and think maybe I should get a Taycan or something. Then I realise man maths is getting away with me biggrin

Is "stealth" some sort of new spelling for "tts"?

The Audi brand is run of the mill in the sense that seeming everyone has one (and they dont do anything spectacularly well..). Its a bit like iPhones - they're relatively expensive and appear upmarket but you wouldnt be surprised if someone had one, even if they were poor!

The RS4 is like the equivalent of the latest most expensive iPhone 11 (or whatever it is nowadays) that's £1,500 worth..over a 6 or 7.

If you haven't done so, go and drive a B7. And then report back on just how much like the standard car it is.

If you cannot tell any difference, get yourself a nice comfy pair of Clarks and start to use the bus biggrin

I have driven one. I never said or implied it was like the standard car, nor this new one.

You appear to have missed the point I was making.

The fact it's fashionable to say on an enthusiasts website that a car far beyond anything you've ever driven, that you have never and will never drive is boring, is a bit ridiculous.

I evidently have.

What was the point you were making? (Especially the iPhone analogy) smile

Was it more around something like the cost to make them can't be enough to justify the difference between a 2.0TFSI and RS4? (I hope not...)

tbf I think the same when I see the base price of an entry level mid engined Ferrari is 200k.

I'm glad people still buy them though as they make the world a better place biggrin Especially so in the case of the Audi as in a few years time you'll be able to get one for 30-40k. At which point they are a lot of car for the money.

(Does anyone need to go that fast in an estate car? Of course not. But if we took that line of reasoning we'd all be pottering around in Toyota Aygos).

I am so glad they have done this.

My 'dog car' is a 2009 Black A4 Avant with privacy windows and bronze alloys, it looks quite similar to this new version. But I paid less than £6K for mine!

That's all well and good if all you're after is having a car LOOKING like this and not caring how it drives wink

Why are you comparing new with old ?

Why are you comparing a practical fast estate with a 2 seat sports car ?

Some depressingly daft / boring cliche responses to what is essentially a very nice capable car at a slightly inflated price

My B7 RS4 was a lovely thing and I still like RS4s

£45k for an Audi 80 in 1994. Just as well there weren’t any mugs out there willing to buy them!

But it's very difficult to fit 2 kids and a dog in the back of an R8!
