RE: BMW 328i (E46) | Spotted

Problem also is, once used, with a couple of marks on the alloys, maybe some winter grime - it'll look like a £995 car... only you will know it has only done about 11K miles and so is apparently worth so much more than it looks - sort of the exact opposite of what most folk on PH buying older cars would want - so it'll never do well here!
I already put this in the seriously overpriced thread about 6 months ago..
It's not an M3, it's not a Sport, it's not an Alpina, it's not an Individual, it's not a limited edition, it's not a manual, it's not a coupe, it's not a convertible, it's not a touring..so why the hell is it so expensive?
Someone said they could see the appeal for a buyer wanting a 'box fresh' E46 rather than a new 3-Series - I'm sorry I really dont think these people exist and in the highly unlikely scenario that they do, they'll not simultaneously want to be ripped off.
The Hexagon tax may work with a nice M3 CSL but for a low mile humdrum SE 3-Series that hasn't reached classic status. It's not slagging off the car, it's the greed.
I would absolutely love to see how much you would get from the same dealer - or any other - as a trade price the very next day after you've bought it. I would wager much, much less than half the advertised price.

It has been for sale for about a year so far so I guess the demand for this isn't great. Greedy b@st@rd price. It's worth half that at the absolute most.
and it’ll still be on sale in 12 months time as well.i’d probably push to 5k for a car like this (with the manual box). They probably stole it as a swapper/offered car. Greedy is not the word.... the price of this car transcends this into the realms of utter farce/fantasy (you choose). pity, because it’s a survivor and deserves to be cherished as opposed to collecting dust at the back of a showroom full of cars with overinflated prices.
This is why anything remotely interesting over 15 years old is becoming unobtainable. Why does everyone think they have a 'classic,' for sale? The problem is, one business does this, then private sellers start thinking their 100,000+ mile versions are worth £7000 at least. Others follow and that's that. Admittedly it has to sell.

You make a good point. The modern classic market (i’ll call it that as catch-all moniker) is all over the shop at the moment. The magazines don’t help (i’ve commented previously on the M3 feature in Modern Classics and the mad prices they attached to the E46 M3’s). The usual specialist dealers are next on the list; serving only to create a situation where leggy survivors with questionable history, and in equally questionable condition, have a 0 added to their price because the deluded owner thinks/has seen that the car is worth more than the shed/daily classic money it really is. ebay is full of them. Bought a 2001, 325CI SE almost two years ago to the day, as a daily commuter. Just under £3k, full BMW service history, 53000 miles. Most importantly, for me, it’s a manual. I really think it’s potentially the best car I’ve bought, for the money.
Comfortable, stable and communicative chassis. Not super rapid, but it can scoot along quite happily. It’s a pleasant machine to drive, and does everything very well indeed.

Whilst I would never spend £15k on this, I think someone will buy it at ~£13k... although the market is small, there is definitely someone for it.
People laugh about people like KGF classics, but if you keep an eye on their social media you can see that they do move stock fairly quickly.
if this was 10k, in Euros, LHD and a manual... Think I might be well tempted. The price is silly, but IMO time is on their side. People laugh about people like KGF classics, but if you keep an eye on their social media you can see that they do move stock fairly quickly.

As nice as it looks that would be £1995 on our site.
Its still just an old run of the mill e46 whichever way you cut it and doing 550 miles each year will have done that engine no favours at all..
Worth a bit more than 2k imho but other than that can't agree more. Older, low mileage cars can give real grief. Moving parts need to be moved, or they stop moving properly. Its still just an old run of the mill e46 whichever way you cut it and doing 550 miles each year will have done that engine no favours at all..
I'll add that I love my 16 year old E46 M Sport 320cd with 170k on the clock. Not the best engine but needs must. Other than that it's been bloody marvellous. Suspect it's had a remap at some point, Harmon Kardon, heated full leather and an aftermarket head unit that gives me aux in and bluetooth phone prep. I don't need any more than that and it's one reason we sold our 2 year old 2 series GT (which we threw just about every option at). It was rubbish.

Had exactly this spec and colour about 10 years ago. Lovely car but £15k is way too much for what will feel a very ordinary car v quickly.
There is way too much ‘classic’ status applied to what are really just survivor cars. That £15 spent on a contemporary 3 series would still be much better spent.
