Just looking for a bit of advice on this. Took my mum's TT for an MOT and it failed on a blown sidelight bulb so just got the garage to replace them.
Then I've just noticed this morning that they've both melted through the headlamp cluster. Looks to me as if they were mounted too close to the plastic. Presumably the garage are liable for cost of two new full headlight clusters?
Also is there anything I should document or do before I return it for them to look at? TIA

Wow. That's a pretty bad outcome from a minor job. What have the garage said?

The mounting for the bulbs will be a fixed position, so unless they modified the clusters in some way, the bulbs shouldn't be (close to) touching or melting anything.

The only other variable that could come into play is (as mentioned by other already) the wattage of the bulb used was significantly higher (and therefore hotter) than the 5watts that most cars use.

I doubt the garage will pay out for 2 brand new headlights to replace some that are several years old.

Why is everyone so scared of holding people to account for shoddy work?

Thanks for replies. Bulb should be a 5w as far as I'm aware. Will double check if I can what has been put in. As has been said don't really see how they could be in wrong position?

Have you got a pic that’s not so close? Just trying to work out what they could poss have done but can’t really work out what I’m seeing there.

What year TT is it?

It does look bright for a 5w.

If I remember correctly TT’s and some Vag stuff use 21w halogen side light bulbs

I don’t think that's legal, only for brake, fog, indicators and reverse lights.

Maybe the shape of the bulb they used is physically larger than the OEM type so closer to the plastic lense - just a thought?

Ah I think you’re right, H6w 6 watt bulb in a TT but you can get a 21w version... perhaps the garage put the wrong one in

No point in guessing, just ring them up, say youve changed the bulbs and the headlight looks like its melting - can you take a look?

If its an older model, I think its reasonable if they fit used headlights in no less of a condition than yours were before it went in - free of charge.

This is the reason I do al my maintenance myself.

If a garage can’t even change a lightbulb correctly...

I had a set of the correct bulbs that I was going to swap but didn't get time so thought it's no biggie for the garage to chuck some in 😂

Anyway, garage have said Audi sent the incorrect bulbs (too powerful) and are replacing both units. Expensive mistake for someone
