Garage changed sidelight bulbs. Melted clusters
Discussion
Just looking for a bit of advice on this. Took my mum's TT for an MOT and it failed on a blown sidelight bulb so just got the garage to replace them.
Then I've just noticed this morning that they've both melted through the headlamp cluster. Looks to me as if they were mounted too close to the plastic. Presumably the garage are liable for cost of two new full headlight clusters?
Also is there anything I should document or do before I return it for them to look at? TIA

The mounting for the bulbs will be a fixed position, so unless they modified the clusters in some way, the bulbs shouldn't be (close to) touching or melting anything.
The only other variable that could come into play is (as mentioned by other already) the wattage of the bulb used was significantly higher (and therefore hotter) than the 5watts that most cars use.

Have you got a pic that’s not so close? Just trying to work out what they could poss have done but can’t really work out what I’m seeing there.
What year TT is it?
It does look bright for a 5w.
I'll try and upload one but had to screenshot it to get it under the upload limit on here. Its melted all the way through, theres a hole in it now. 2006 3.2 mk2What year TT is it?

If I remember correctly TT’s and some Vag stuff use 21w halogen side light bulbs
I don’t think that's legal, only for brake, fog, indicators and reverse lights. wmg100 said:
I had a set of the correct bulbs that I was going to swap but didn't get time so thought it's no biggie for the garage to chuck some in ??
Anyway, garage have said Audi sent the incorrect bulbs (too powerful) and are replacing both units. Expensive mistake for someone
Thats a great result, congrats.Anyway, garage have said Audi sent the incorrect bulbs (too powerful) and are replacing both units. Expensive mistake for someone
