This is why I chose them for my audi. got young kids driving to France a lot with the kids and a lot of holiday gear in the back, keeps the sun and prying eyes out.

My current one came with factory and I like them for reasons above.

It's also a very dark blue which helps blend them in.

It's also got window blinds for really fierce sun.

The kids love it.

I always assume any car with full tints is being driven either by a disqualified driver or somebody whose going straight back inside if s/he's spotted by the BiB.
What a ridiculous thing to say, are you ok?

This thread is PH in a microcosm:

1: Never experienced the thing but don't like it.
Or
2: Experienced the thing and it's great.
Exactement.

I prefer nets.

They are much better when you require reduced visibility through glass.

Having been in a few cars with them (the last being a Vignale Mondeo), all I can say is - If I wanted to drive a van I'd buy a van. I've found the interiors feel extremely claustrophobic and just generally unpleasant to be in. If shading, etc... is required then it be old skool blinds.

Fine, thanks. smile

Just wondering what possible reason anybody might have to want to hide their identity behind tinted glass that, when it includes includes the windscreen and front windows in a full tint is of course illegal. Some kind of automotive equivalent of wearing a wide brimmed baseball cap under a hoodie to avoid being identified on CCTV perhaps?

My folks have an XC60 R-Design, black exterior, black interior, black headlining, dark rear tinted windows. As a passenger in the back, even daylight hours it is somewhat dark and claustrophobic. At night however, it’s positively awful, unless you’re somewhere with bright street lighting, you literally cannot see out. It’s like being in the back of a panel van with no windows. So from that perspective, I’m not a fan.

I hate them, it just looks stupid. Unfortunately our car came with them. I was seriously upset the morning after we got the car home when I went to remove the film only to find out it was factory fitted dark glass. Grrrrr.

It's a while since I had a car with without them, last one was probably the 911 but I'm not bothered about them either way, but this being PH I'm sure there is plenty of "barking at the night" over them on the thread already.

Agreed, I don't like them. To me it's a shame to see them become standard on so many cars these days, the first gen XF Sportbrake had them as standard and you had to specifically tick a box to opt for clear glass. Even as a no cost option, I think I've only ever seen one with the clear glass.

If you could tint all the windows legally, then I wouldn't be against it. Otherwise I think it looks silly

The car without them looks old-fashioned. Maybe that's a look some people like?

Yes for practicality but for looks they don't always look great, especially if they're really dark.

I actually opted for a set of fitted windscreen shades for my E Class as I have two kids so they need them in the back. They look very very similar to tints but are easily removed as needed. Oh and about half the price of fitted tints.

I had it in my cars factory fitted and I like them, keep the sun out of my son and prying eyes of my stuff in the car. The factory fits do not tend to be fully opaque so that’s fine with me. If buying prefer to spec them but if buying used I wouldn’t retrofit if they are not there.

All in all works for me and my needs.

Had them added to my S80 as I always thought the cream interior clashed horribly with the white exterior. The dark tinted rears has really helped improve the exterior look of the car.

In summer my parents both commented that they found the interior much nicer to travel in as there was very little glare in the back, and because of the cream interior the interior still doesn't feel claustrophobic.

It's a yes from me.

Maybe some people think having windows two different colours on one car often looks crap?
