Well for the previous model, I could think of a couple of good reasons. Price (especially with a few options), looks, availability of a FWD estate, and ergonomics (main screen in the outgoing Leon much better placed).

Why would a FWD version be considered an advantage over AWD? For the next gens we'll have to see once all details on the Golfs are out.
