Bought a car today. It said it had 11 miles in the thank. I added 64.5 litres. It then said I had 321 miles in the tank.

Is this fun yet?

My S Class was showing 820 miles for a completely full tank but that's only when you're cruising at a steady speed.

My BMW E46 320td would often show over 600 miles when I brimmed it, and a few times I did achieve that on long Motorway runs.

Last week my E90 330i was showing 1 mile of range when I went to fill it up and then it showed about 430 miles. Yet the pump was cutting out before I got 61 litres into the 63 litre tank! Could have gone a bit further maybe. laugh

I got this last year from my S8 after driving like a nun over the A66, wanted to make it to Tesco Carlisle for cheap Momentum, soon as I got back on motorway after filling up it dropped like a stone

I suspect some of the lower numbers in the posts above are either people who never leave their city, sit revving at lights, drive everywhere in first and second... or maybe haven't understood the question! biggrin

Most I've seen on my car (Mercedes E500) was over 600 miles. I want to say 620 miles. My OH was driving, she is very smooth and gets better MPG than I do on long drives. We were on a long trip up to Scotland so I'd brimmed it around 20 miles before with an already-warm engine. Left the petrol station with five hundred and something miles and it steadily increased until it was showing 620 miles, then decreased again. V8s have surprising cruising efficiency... But are also very much capable of single figures when driving around town.

I've not had my current car (XC70 D5) long but I've already seen an ostensibly-impressive 840 miles range displayed after filling up. The last few miles before the petrol station must have been very gentle though as that range plummeted pretty quickly and in reality around 600 to a tank is good going. One thing that irks me a bit is that once the fuel light comes on, typically at about 80 miles remaining, the range seems to drop two miles for each mile driven even if I'm driving in exactly the same fashion as normal.

2004 Volvo S60 D5. Full tank showed 1080 miles. Briefly.
Agreed.
Do not want to make this a Volvo thing but "my" V70 D5 Manual repeatedly achieved 1070 -1085 before I "bottled it" - never did achieve 1100miles.

My Seat Leon 2.0TDI 170 shows approx. 480 miles when I brim it. I’ll usually get between 450-470 miles out of it though.

Had a Cayenne SD and that would show 550 miles
The tank was absolutely huge; must have been close to 90 odd litres, would cost 130 pounds to fill

At the other end of the scale the C63 would show 180 miles, admittedly the tank is small, but 13 mpg was normal around town

2009 Megane Coupe 60 litre fuel tank shows about 405mile range when filled up. Dependent on temperature i normally get between 330-360 in town driving.

My Merc R320 shows 650ish miles on a full tank if I've just been on a motorway run. Realistically, I struggle to get anything above 450 miles per tank in real-world driving. The tank holds 17.6 gallons of sludge, so rather disappointingly that's barely over 25mpg on Shell Vpower diesel.

After filling up my S70 T5 for long trips the range would steadily increase for at least the first hour of steady driving . The top 1/4 of the tank usually lasted longer than the middle 1/2 .
The best average on a long run was 40.5 mpg which I that was impressive for such a car . It did have a Rica upgrade ECU install. It could also see single figure consumption on track .

That puts it at ~70mpg and I'm not entirely convinced that's doable in an old D5. As said, the computers are hugely optimistic with their calculated MPG hence why they display huge ranges but the reality is far from it.

I've had a few, all in good health, serviced, no excess drag, tyres at 38PSI and despite my best efforts and utter Grandad spec driving, including drafting lorries for miles... I've never managed to crack 800 miles, which is about 50MPG, give or take a couple.

If you did manage in excess of 1,000 miles then you have my admiration!

My Astra 1.7dti did over 750 miles a tank, but it fails this thread because it didn't have a range remaining display tongue out

My current A3 (petrol 1.4tfsi) is the first car I've had which does, but it's pessimistic - indicates 515 when full, but then stays at 515 for another almost 70 miles.

VW Golf TDI (DSG) has said 650. That was after a motorway trip with cruise on for most the trip.

Normal driving is around 550 miles.
