Sequential indicators have been around for a long time. 1965 Ford Thunderbird was the first I think?
Something old and American, for sure. And how we all laughed when we saw them! Then Audi decided to start selling them and everyone was suddenly happy to pay extra to look like a complete fashion victim.
1966 example in Australia:

For a wafty cruiser at the height of the Jet Age, these lights have a certain elegance, I'd say.
70s - diffraction tape stickers spangling out your car make; "earthing straps" from the bumper which were rubber and just flailed in the wind; whip ariels; electric ariels (kinda cool though); mudflaps with cartoon characters etc on them; massive rally-style spotlights, extra brake lights; air horns.... my, we bought some crap.
80s - little backshelf dolls that pulled their trousers down; aftermarket black rubber boot spoilers, modelled on Ford items, I believe.

Tom summarised most of them
Wish I had a grey Cortina
Whiplash aerial, racing trim
Cortina owner - no one meaner
Wish that I could be like him
Twin exhaust and rusty bumper
Chewing gum at traffic light
Stop at red but leave on amber
Grey Cortina outa sight
Wish I had a grey Cortina
Whiplash aerial, racing trim
Cortina owner - no one meaner
Wish that I could be like him
Furlined seats and lettered windscreen
Elbow on the windowsill
Eight track blazing Brucie Springsteen
Bomber jacket, dressed to kill

FWIW people probably now think I have an aftermarket kit to copy modern Audis rather than proper 60’s innovation.

I often wonder if this is a regs thing?
I can only think of one car that is avilable new with flush handles and it's the little MG3.
My X-Type has them, mind.
Could be a popular myth but I thought this was so that firefighters/rescue could open the doors easily with thick gloves on? That being said the newest cars that I've seen with the older "flip-up" flush, door handles are the North American Dodge Charger/Challenger which I believe are still on sale. My 2010 MINI and my wife's 2009 Fiat 500 still had the "80s-style" chrome door handles like you might get on an 80s VW Polo/Golf. Not sure if the new 500/MINI still have them.I can only think of one car that is avilable new with flush handles and it's the little MG3.

My pet peeve is "piano black" interiors.
You know how we look back at the 1980s and think WTF?
I genuinely think we'll look back the same way to the 2010s , with the proliferation of black wheels, lurid green, shiny gold and camo wraps on Lamborghinis and Ferraris. I know some do now, but more so in the future IMO.
Interesting to see that side rubbing strips were worth losing for styling even though they had a practical need...especially when both cars and their drivers are bigger yet parking spaces remain the same small size.

Red Noses n your car in the 90s that you left on for rest of the year. England lags in the windows. Also in the 80s those sort of sound generating box's which made gun an rocket sounds if you were cut up by someone. Sun strips in the 70s. 00s beenie babies. CD players in the boot or ones you pulled out of the dash rather than just a face off. Oh an Car phones what a great idea.
