It's about how the car makes you feel, not how good it is on paper... Yes on paper its an upgrade from your RS3 but in reality and within your needs for a car it doesn't tick the same boxes.

I've had many cars, one of my favourites was my Rx8. When compared to my S3 or 335I (Tuned) on paper I should have prefered the later but I didn't I'd rather drive my Rx8 again, de-cat pops and bangs sideways fun at 15mph when nobody is around. same with my latest car "Alfa Giulietta Cloverleaf" I prefer it to my S3, its slower, build quality isn't the same but it puts more smiles on my face.

Boring isn't a word I'd use to describe a C63 AMG Coupe. I recently bought an AMG C63 S Coupe and think it's a fantastic car that does many things very well and you can enjoy at any speeds, that ever present V8 burble is a delight.

My nephew works for Audi and I have owned and tried a fair few Audi S's and RS's. I am not a fan of the pre-facelift RS3 from personal experience although the facelift is supposed to be better (I haven't been interested in it enough to try the latter). So although I am surprised by the OP's comments because I think the RS3 is a pretty boring package (sound aside) I do appreciate we all have different tastes and are looking for different things from our choice of cars.

Whilst I haven’t driven those cars, I had a sort of similar thing with my bikes.

My 54hp auto gearbox bike was so quick off the line and nimble I loved driving it and especially round town. My 180hp manual sports bike was a pain in the ass round town and frankly boring unless you opened the throttle up post 50mph which is when it came into its own and would rocket you into silly speed within seconds.

I suspect the RS3 is a hard one to beat. But depending on your circumstances I’d say give it 6 months to a year and enjoy the Merc for what it is. A comfortable sleeper that blends in most of the time and can go a bit mental when you really want it to. You can go back to an RS3 or something else but it doesn’t sound like you’ll bother with a C63 or similar again so may as well get what you can out of the experience.
I completely agree. My Honda Blackbird is pretty boring and hard work unless it's doing 100+. My fake Honley Adventurer 250cc is pretty much always more fun, unless it's a long motorway ride.
My MR2 is probably the most fun you can have on four wheels (for the money)...unless it's a long motorway drive.

Not many (if any?) vehicles can pull off being a GT and a Sports car in one package.

A visit to MSL in Birmingham and they remapped mine up to 618 bhp and just over 900nm of torque. The noise is immense

I think people commenting on social media and forums having never driven the cars and only read the on-paper specs and looked at photos doesn't help smile
So much this across the board. People read a review or look at a spec sheet and decide what is 'best' based on other peoples' opinions or even less, numbers on a page.

You see it on here "Car X is so dull"... Checks garage - Diesel Renault Scenic.

The only answer is an extended test drive in as many things as you can.
yes

Lotus make my favourite cars, but I notice so much hate online from people who've clearly never driven one. Losing a couple of cylinders or 50bhp to the opposition doesn't mean a thing in real life when the car actually drives like a dream and the more powerful car in the comparison is comparatively lifeless and dull.

The trouble is that much of the media car buyers absorb these days is from people who've not driven the car, in contrast to 10 or 20 years ago when car magazines and Top Gear were the only source of info and always involved the writer or presenter driving the car.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies.

After reading through some of your input, I just want to confirm that I don't hate the C63, just doesn't give me the same feeling as the RS3.

With regards to W204 C63, I looked at few of them and completely disregarded them, I love the engine in the car but it doesn't appeal to me as I daily my cars.
Additionally, I wouldn't say RS3 is a boring car like some said here, unless you track your cars (which I don't).

I'll definitely will keep it for at least a year or so, maybe it will grow on me. It doesn't make sense getting rid of it so quick in the ownership.
Just wanted to get an opinion if anyone else had similar feeling when they changed cars.

Thank you for your replies

That’s the issue with cars that are crazy fast, it’s hard to actually use the speed, especially around town or on a commute, even these hyper hatches like the RS3 or even the s3 can be too much

I really do think the fiesta ST Size of hot hatch is the sweet spot, manual, quick but not instantly into licence losing territory, fun at low speeds even around a round about etc, cheaper; the new polo gti even has the refinement licked for the commute

I know it’s a totally different class to a c63 but I always think why buy more than you need?

This is why I still drive a 20 year old Impreza STI.

My car is 330bhp but a lot lighter than these modern cars and it’s electrifying to me still the way it wants to go as you tickle the throttle. Yes, it probably feels faster than it is (but isn’t that a good thing in the road?)

I took a friend out in mine at the weekend and he’s never been in one, he has a stable of older exotica (mainly prancing horses) and he was straight on autotrader when we got back!

It’s still right at the sweet spot for me, old school tech, reliable, no electrical gremlins, proper 4wd, rides great down back roads and it’s becoming classic. I bought it for £3k and it’s still sub 80k miles and I love it just as much after 7 years.

Another mate’s angle on an ‘upgrade’ was a new S3, it rides like a flipping skateboard and crashes down bumps, 9/10 he prefers driving his van.

Never had a chance to drive a C63, but I feel similar about my RS3 as you do about the C63. Pretty god damn boring, and cheaply built car, unless you're doing lunatic speeds.

So disappointment in all the hype behind DSG. Even with a tune, they're boring as fk.

Bit of a thread resurrection but I moved from a W204 C63 Estate to an FL RS3 and now have a W205 (S205) C63 Estate.

As capable as the RS3 was, it felt a very run of the mill car, blended into the background as just another a3, not special at all.

The C63 just has some much presence and that V8 sound dwarfs the pops and bangs of the 5 cylinder RS3.

Glad I am back in a C63.

With respect to the OP, each to their own.

Personally, I don't see the appeal to the old C63 (W204). I've driven a few and they felt pretty agricultural.

I've only ever driven one RS3 and I thought it was clynically fast on any road in any conditions.

On the plus side, if the OP still isn’t getting on with the car he could probably sell it for more than he paid in the current market.

On the plus side, the C63 probably sounds amazing, or at least pleasing, to pedestrians, whereas I’m sure the popping and banging the RS3 was doing was only pleasurable to you and no one else.

The 4.0 C63 pops and bangs even more than a standard RS3

I suspect the C63 is faster and potentially more capable but what someone derives fun from with a car differs and actually outright speed isn't by default the 'fun factor'.

The RS3 is a quick and I'd imagine something you can perhaps extract more from more easily. I have a CLS63 with the older V8 and despite it's age, it's so capable that you have to be going very fast for it to feel like it's going fast. It has a great sense of occasion but my 131bhp Twingo RS is fun because you can get lots out of it, without going particularly fast.

It's never going to be definitive. There are modern, very capable cars which I just don't find really do it for me but others wet their pants over. I prefer the noise of a V8 over any pops and bangs of a 4-5 cylinder but that's a very popular favourite, some people love the latest tech etc.

Just a shame you're disappointed with your new car. Maybe it'll grow on you as lets face it, it's a different kind of segment. Hot hatch vs fast coupe/saloon. Take some getting used to. smile

RS3 is a cracking car If I was you I’d go back to one, the newer ones are disappointing sound wise compared to pfl

I have a PFL RS3 and will potentially replace with a 205 C63 S, but I would argue the iron block 5cyl has more character than the V8 in the C63, especially with the secondary cats removed. And the C63 definitely pops and bangs more.
