Surely the issue at the moment is that hardly any buying or selling is actually taking place so prices remain static. It is impossible to gauge what is happening to prices as few if any sales are taking place so there is no data.
At the moment, the market is essentially frozen, which is why the continually increasing number of cars for sale on Autotrader is so baffling (541k cars today).
The pressure on people to try to liquidate an asset (or relieve themselves of a burden) is going up.

That figure is listings, not sales. It reflects people's willingness to sell, not their readiness to buy.

Wealth certainly whispers.

Whereas particularly new money shouts perfectly illustrated by the recent meteoric rise of Chaverry. Hopefully with hard times ahead this will now be significantly reduced.
Absolutely.

Nothing whispers wealth quite as much as a country house in the Cotswolds and a beat up Volvo parked outside one's Knightsbridge mews.
See, this is just a crock.

I’ve dealt with many, many wealthy individuals who have 8-9 figures net wealth who enjoy New Ferrari’s, Lamborghinis and Bentley’s along with Yachts, space flight deposits and wineries like any other lottery winner.

Old money, inherited money, titled money and lottery winners. People’s taste is not defined by the number of 000’s in their account or how they got their money.

I’ve dealt with an Indian prince who loves his FPV Ute to a Lord who likes to go to Vegas and drives a Mansory Aventador and a lottery winner who just wanted a new Subaru.

Dealers taking advantage of free listings until end of March although chances are this will be extended.

Yes, we know that, but given people are only allowed out for essential journeys and showrooms are closed, it doesn't make logical sense. Presumably it's clutching at straws.

Always said there is as much pleasure derived from driving an interesting old shed with character as something high end particularly jumping from one immediately driving the other so you can fully appreciate the two extremes.

Ditto poached egg on toast v a perfect steak.

The irony of AV185's big "wealth whispers" statement is that he has listed in his profile "Current cars 911 991.2 GT3 manual clubsport, Ferrari 458 Italia, 911 997 GTS PDK coupe, 981 Spyder, 981 GT4, 718 GT4 due (poss RS), 911 991.2 GT2 RS PDK due at some point (18 18)."

Not much whispering being done there. hehe

Whether you're a trader or a private seller, if you want to sell your car, it's perfectly logical to list it on Autotrader.

You never know, you might sell it to a guy three doors down, but without listing it, you definitely won't sell it.

Big difference between a car enthusiast such as myself being factual on the one hand and shouting about stuff from the rooftops on the other though. biggrin:

Rather odd considering the misfortune he wishes upon his fellow new money chavs:

Presumably you are firmly in the pro Chav camp.

A whisper that was desperate to be noticed. A bit like a few of his 43 posts in the PCP holiday thread.

He's maybe quiet about his wealth, but he wants you to realise he's considerably richer than you. laugh

His whispers are a bit more obvious than he realises.

Interesting to see a few in the pro Chav camp still actually exist.
Whilst we'll all suffer some level of turbulence over the coming months, as has been said there will be a percentage of society who will very quickly forget any immediate hardship they had and jump right back in there with over committing themselves with tat they dont need.
Yep quite uncanny how history always repeats itself and most folks never learn even from mistakes over relatively short time periods.

Prices are definitely holding firm at the moment but then that's perfectly understandable.

Unless you absolutely need cash now, almost nothings selling.

I put my car up for sale a matter of days before this kicked off, only one for sale at the time, plenty of interested, literally the next and not a word since. Doesn't mean I'll be lowering the price anytime soon, I don't need the money and I've got the space, it's also not depreciating I suppose, which some people might have to contend with.

Price isn't the main issue atm it is the restrictions in place.

Prices are notional rather than holding firm as it's virtually impossible to buy/sell.

Although eBay relieved me of my £19.99 for the listing today, which felt a bit like a kick in the bks.
