Will Coronavirus hit used car prices?
Discussion
Perhaps it is more prevalent than I think! ......I do think there are some that probably fit the timewaster look/feel but aren't they are just extra picky/cautious/nervous even?
If you look at 2 (10!) cars and buy 1 you're a potential timewaster to one (many) salesman and a easy/hard sale to another?
I like to "go away and think about it" which is I suspect not a phrase most salemen like to hear!?

Dont forget its not just about whether or not they will commit, its the fact it may take a disproportionate amount of time to get them to commit in which time you could have sold cars to several other people.
I think a decent salesman could say I'll leave you to consider x or y or is it ok if I just speak to this couple etc and deal with others, there is not often exactly a queue forming is there?Just show less interest but leave th door open?
Do people really waste a salesmans time or do they waste their own time? When I look at cars I want no input from the staff apart from to give me the keys and operate the card machine, the only contribution they can make is to annoy me enough to put me off a sale. The car will either sell itself or not, nothing they can say will sway me towards a purchase and I only view cars that I am seriously considering purchasing, even if it's one of a small selection I will view before a single purchase of the best.
Back on topic, my internet advert trawling seems to be showing less of the selection of cars I'm interested in available for competitive prices. This must mean that well priced motors are selling and seemingly faster than more are coming on the market, certainly no signs I've seen yet of any drop in prices.

Exactly, I've done my researched and picked a few cars I want to look at. The last thing i want is a salesman stood anywhere near me while I'm looking at it. Lovely stuff. And all entirely predictable given the pent up demand and free money that Sunak has been throwing around like confetti.
I suppose it's a bit like the owner of the Offy celebrating a great days trade when the local alcoholic tramp has just found a £50 note on the pavement.

The very fact that GDP drops could well mean used car prices rise as we are currently seeing across all sectors atm.
The rises you are seeing at the moment are short-term supply and demand aberrations. It won't continue. They are rarely wrong.
What you're describing is dumb money.

Nothing surprises me when it comes to saddo timewasters across most purchases who really have nothing else in their lives and essentially nothing else better to do with their time.
The British consumer really is programmed to shop irrespective of whether or not they buy more tat they don't need or nothing at all.
Just look at the number of folks, individuals and whole families who pre covid would spend a whole day and a perfect summers day at that, driving miles and queuing in desperation to walk round some godforsaken shopping centre to have 'lunch' at some stty crammed to the rafters McDonalds then traipse round the usual braindead retailers found on any high street to buy more tat they might want but definitely don't need.
This mentality of the timewasters inevitably extends to cars and showrooms just as much as it does to new housing developments where those with empty lives and nothing better to do with their time are perfectly happy wasting others time viewing and testing cars and homes they have absolutely no intention whatsoever of buying.

They're wasting your time, not their own. They're perfectly happy to take an afternoon to browse a car showroom and have the undivided attention of some salesman for the duration. It's not that I don't like your opinions as such, I just don't appreciate someone claiming to 'have no skin in the game' and attempting to adopt an attitude of breezy insouciance over a particular situation and debate whilst simultaneously holding derogatory and disparaging views and making baseless generalisations of one side of the debates position.
I realise I've 'found you out' and you don't really like it but as I said earlier you've really nothing to worry about, from what I've seen they're going to do whatever it takes to protect the feckless debt junkies and allow the whole debt fuelled charade that is our economy to carry on regardless.
Anyway, must go, mother says I have to tidy my room.
Hi again Mike. Repeating the same bizarre assumptions and "impressions" will only lead to me repeating the same facts. I don't have any debts nor am I involved in the finance sector, apart from a private investor / pension funds holder point of view. HTH. Ok, I have looked at the selling price of the following cars (0-60<=5s, mileage<100k, more than 10 new listings or modified listings in the last week on autotrader) and it seems that there has been a drop of -1.6% in selling price from last week.
Ok...it seems that the prices are now going up by 0.9% this weekEdited by paddy1970 on Monday 8th June 09:19

Govt looking at £6k scrappage scheme petrol & diesel to purchase EVs (maybe PHEVs).
Now please tell me what 7 seat EV option i have?
Also for those thinking cheap cars will keep selling given this it might mean far more clunkers are far more valuable and push up the dregs of the market.

The unemployment guess of 10% would be a result imo but there seems to be high/medium earners being affected like pilots ,engineers, chefs etc which will be difficult for them to regain equivalent earning jobs unless their sectors pick back up!
My uncle flies for the RAF and over the last couple of years vary squadron members have left to fly for Virgin, BA etc. A lot of them have tried to come back now because they’re in trouble financially with big mortgages etc. paddy1970 said:

What is the spec of the 16 Reg C63 you list there? Is it Black book prices or screen prices? Edited by paddy1970 on Monday 8th June 09:19
Mine is tiny mileage full loaded and an estate yet these values are MORE/similar to what I paid for mine in Sept19?
Struggling to see how I can get 5k miles an extra owner more consumables wear and 9 months older = same price.
