Chippy miserabilist!
Personally I'd rather be in the chippy miserablist's shoes than the irresponsible debt junky's right now, no? Though I suppose as you watch the bailiff change the locks on your front door one can console one's wife and kids with the story of how awesome it was to have x high performance cars for a few years...I'm not a debt junkie but i'm not bitter and twisted about how other people chose to spend their money either
I dont think either of those options holds any appeal for any right minded individual.

Nissan is planning a 30% year-on-year cut in global vehicle production through December as falling demand due to the coronavirus complicates its efforts to recover profitability, Reuters reports.
Like the Nissan. I should have kept the Micra to support the brand. All the big manufacturers already know what’s coming down the tracks, less demand, lower sales, financial disruption.
Do you think buying the odd filter off them at a few pounds (then wasting a salespersons time talking about a car you'd no intentions of buying) would have helped them greatly?

It was a minty brand leading mobile advert.

And yet Vauxhall is now resuming production at Ellesmere Port. All the big manufacturers already know what’s coming down the tracks, less demand, lower sales, financial disruption.

I do sometimes wonder why I bother to be sensible.
My most scary observation of how economic activity has reduced is a 280 mile trip down the M40 and round the M25 at 5pm on a Thursday. It has never been faster with so few lorries and cars.
If cars aren't being used, they aren't going to need replaced. I've had trips at 2am with more traffic. The lack of economic activity after a large loosening of regulations needs some sort of kick start to get things going.

It gets worse. Wait until your parents have to go into care....those that have saved all their life and own a (nice) property will have to pay their own exhorbitant care fees whereas those who pissed their money away will of course be entitled to free care.

I’m doing my kids a favour, smoking cigars and drinking cheap plonk brandy like it’s water. Hope all the essential bits and pieces will have worn out before my mind starts to wobble and I need help scraping ste off my backside. It gets worse. He WASN’T a troll but after so much Internet abuse it’s probably inevitable that he’s gonna play to it, especially when he knows it’s winding certain people up. I don’t like some posts which indicate an apparent desire for car salesmen to lose their jobs. Personally I don’t want anyone to lose their job but the issues that caused the last recession were significantly worse even before the once in a lifetime global pandemic hit us.
Most people don’t even realise that animals can get this st. It’s never going away, the world has changed but I do find it quite amusing that car prices have temporarily risen due to pent up demand to drive so few miles per year.

He wasnt a troll but he did have a very bitter attitude towards the motor industry from his very first post on the subject. He has always come across as someone gleeful at the prospect of others suffering particularly those in the car industry.I don’t like some posts which indicate an apparent desire for car salesmen to lose their jobs. It was hardly a surprise that that unrelenting sneering attitude resulted in a backlash.
He can hide his bitterness now with trolling but it still seeps through.
I think some gave him the benefit of the doubt for longer than others but its getting very hard even for them to defend the indefensible.

Theres a whole load of valid reasons why people have been buying cars recently, already listed on here.As has been pointed out, theres still 400,000+ cars on A/T so its not that theres no cars for sale. I think theres been a change in used car buying characteristics and car types that were previously popular perhaps now arent.
To your point about people buying cars to do so few miles a year theres been many people note - myself included - that the prices of stuff like M2s and M3s has went up or sell quickly. Maybe those people doing less miles now feel they have more freedom to move away from their eurobox?

I agree with many things that u say apart from when you’re really wound up by someone lol, however, I recommend u don’t make personal attacks about people’s financial position.Anyway, don’t know how much your “cost to change” was (nice purchase) and all is good if peanuts to the individual as it’s just changing one asset for another.
However, many cars have significant depreciation and unless someone is loaded I really REALLY don’t understand why anyone would currently change unless there’s a specific reason (e.g. end of finance agreement).
Do buyers of secondhand cars look round for an ew one as soon as the payments for the old one have finished, in the same way that most new car buyers do? If so, then sales will continue to be buoyant even after the initial surge, although at a lower rate because sadly some will have lost their jobs and have difficulty in getting a new one.
It is only the sheddists who get another car because the old one is worn out, among the people I know it is more age of car than anything else, and cars are still ageing at the same rate, even if the mileage is increasing more gradually. I actually predict that the net effect on prices will be minimal, so we can all go home now

Mum moved into a care home last July and we got a bit behind with the fees but thankfully managed to sell her retirement flat in May, although thanks to Covid we haven't been able to visit her since March.
Anyway that's partly why when I saw a Z4M Coupe up for sale at a good price just before Christmas I jumped in and bought it as I have fancied one for a while after having the 3 litre Coupe for over 5 years. And prices seem to have increased for both in recent months.
Maybe as people aren't spending on foreign holidays they are treating themselves to a car instead?

Yeah I wouldn't call it middle ground either. Fast food with cutlery maybe. I'd happily go with the kid because of all the above. If I was with mrs only in a strange town I'd far rather do a little online research and run the risk of getting it horribly wrong
