Coronavirus = empty roads
Discussion
What with the current global situation and government advice to stay at home, surely if you wanted to get in your car and go for drive, or go for a motorbike ride, is there any risk? The roads are empty, wouldn’t this be a great time to take advantage of it, and relive the boredom at home.

If your on your own in your car, on your bike and don't get out in crowded areas, this is not an issue imo - it is if you start picking your mates up or family members and are within close proximity in the car.I'm thinking of doing this when I come out of precautionary quarantine (1 more week to go) WFH, just won't be stopping, need to fill car up mind, and will be strictly on my own in my highly disinfected car.
I'm going to get out on my bike occasionally. We have a few pay at pump petrol stations nearby. I'll take sarnies and a flask if I think I'll be out over lunchtime. Not stopping to talk to anyone - standard anyway. I'm thinking we shouldn't take too much advantage of emptier roads...a hoon gone wrong puts unnecessary strain on ambo and hospital etc.
Be careful what you. wish for, I'm stuck in Spain and the lockdown is more stringent that you are currently experiencing. Here you can only use your car to go the local supermarket or pharmacy, only one person in the car, and it is being policed stringently by the Guardia with 100 euro fines. Key workers have permits to travel to work.
Maybe coming to you soon?

Nobody's wishing for anything, doommonger!Maybe coming to you soon?
The commute is certainly much quieter - my 17 mile each way is typically 35 mins in rush hour. Last few days I've been doing it in 23 mins.
I have noticed that some are taking advantage though, lots of people now sat at 80+ but I'm sticking to my usual commute cruise control of 65mph.
I wouldn't say driving has to be eradicated altogether, but the destination should be the consideration. We are heading out to the local park shortly to walk, fresh air and negligible risk of crowded spaces.

It’s not about the risk of the virus, what happens if you crash?
Do you really want to be in the hospital system right now?
To be fair, chances of a bad crash on one journey is pretty remote I’d sayDo you really want to be in the hospital system right now?
Roads around me are really quiet at the moment.
I’m heading out where I can within reason including getting out on the bike this afternoon. A few hours on my own in a forest will do me the world of good right now. It’s been a funny old week.
Anything is better than being stuck inside getting bombarded by the doom mongering press.
