RE: Alfa Romeo GTV Cup | Spotted

Absolutely gorgeous, imo the finest-looking coupe of the 1990s.
I had the chance to buy one in the early 2000s for less than GBP10k and not doing so is the one motoring regret I have. Instead I opted for the safe option of a Celica 190, which I loved, but the Alfa made my heart beat faster.

I had a nuvola blue busso GTV with aero kit and cream leather and dark blue dash interior. So apart from the brake cooling grills it was the same as the cup. But mine looked better with the pearlescent paint and better interior.
I never understood the Cup premium. If it had mechanical upgrades maybe but there were better looking stock GTVs.
It was no sports car though mind. It was reallly a GT car. I took mine to the nurburgring, spa and around Scotland on tours. If you could swallow 30 mpg at best in a motorway for only 220bhp it was lovely to cruise.
I loved mine but it was getting expensive to replace parts. I was looking forward to a new modern one until Alfa cancelled it

Yes the seat is quite high so you feel you perch on top of the car rather than snug within it. Another reason it's more GT car, the seat as you perch gives rubbish lateral support so fast cornering requires bracing yourself.
I'm 5'10" and my head nearly touched the headliner. I love Italian cars wnr the gtv had plenty you had to learn to love!

Am I right though that its not made for the taller man?
I'm 6'4 and I fit in! I tried a GTV with a factory sunroof and I couldn't fit in that.Zombie said:
Uh huh. A 4 branch exhaust on a V6...
I don't know about the UK, but here in Europe the GTV Cup was also available with the 2 litre twinspark engine. sunbeam alpine said:

It's almost as if people didn't actually read the article.Pistonheads said:
British Cups also came as standard with the 24v V6 powerplant (the T-Spark four-pot was also offered on the continent)

Have been guilty of it myself!
Former Cup owner number 76! I heard from a later owner that she’s dead now sadly!
Great cars but if you wanted a really special GTV this one would get my money:

A real racer!

I had one of these beauties which was chipped to 240bhp and had a 4-branch exhaust. Quite the best sounding car I ever had
Uh huh. A 4 branch exhaust on a V6...Mine was a 1999 V6 GTV in black with red leather and full aero kit. I loved that car but it didn't handle particularly well if I'm honest. Too much weight over the front wheel with that V6 lump. Plus it was always in the garage for something or other (Auto Lusso). Although flawed I look back on it as one of my favourites.
Have a green and tan gtv 3.0 bought from a member on here, loving the busso again, after running a 156GTA in noughties. RE02ELC gone but not forgotten.. Its sat in the garage at the moment, begging for a run out...
Needs a little work, but it's had all the great mods done, Q2 diff, gta flywheel/clutch, koni suspension, and plenty of rustproofing. Loving it.

My old man had a 3.0 V6 back in the day. It wasn't a Cup, but had the aerokit so was basically the same car.
He fitted AP brakes, Bilsteins and other mods from Autodelta.
I remember he saw it for sale a couple of years later after owning an E46 M3 and bought it back. Sadly, it showed time had moved on. As soon as we drove it away it didn't sound as good as we remembered, and the handling was... well... dated.
I love the look of them, but you have to be kidding yourself if you think they are in any way a sports car these days.
It's never really been a sports car, not then or now. Front wheel drive, not particularly light and a big heavy V6 up front made sure of that. I still absolutely love mine though. He fitted AP brakes, Bilsteins and other mods from Autodelta.

Very true ....but it seems like you get 98% of the Cup experience for a lot less unless I’ve missed something?
