My car needs an MOT 4th May. So far the Gov website states this same expiry date. Will it be given the 6 months extension?
Is Google broken for you? Took 2 sec to find and 100% crystal clear ffshttps://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-m...

But nobody here knows what the future holds or what future policy will be, therefore nobody will be able to tell you will happen in the future. As the first 3 week lockdown 'may' finish before my MOT due date thought I would ask.
"Ffs".
Yet the wording on the .gov site is very very clear "MOT expiry date will be extended by 6 months if it’s due on or after 30 March 2020".
However based on your first sentence above, maybe English is a little challenging for you though

What if you need to service your car to maintain its warranty but now cannot? Will it null/void the warranty?
Yes, now in this boat too as well. But with the added complication that the extension I had provisionally purchased was not activated, as I never got a chance to drop the contract in to the dealer before they closed. At the same time my annual service with them was cancelled. But hey ho, bigger issues like death to worry about.Best thing to do is call the head office. They are probably operating phones from home by diverting calls.

Speak to your dealer. If they are closed like many are, then they won't be doing services at the moment. But I'm pretty sure this will not void your warranty. And it is unlikely that they will remain shut for an entire year.M12MTR said:
Unable to figure it out 30bhp/ton?
Perhaps try a college GCSE course eh. This may help your lack of intelligence.
There is nothing to figure out. Have you actually read what you posted? Or is that also too much effort on your part?Perhaps try a college GCSE course eh. This may help your lack of intelligence.
And thanks. I’ll consider some GCSE courses.

I thought this was going to run for a year, but there's no mention of that on the Gov webpage.
Legislation will be introduced on 30 March 2020 and will come into immediate effect for 12 months, following a short consultation with key organisations. From here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/vehicle-owners-...

In the case of BMW they have communicated that service packs will be extended until 30th June if the service was due during lockdown. For cars registered after 14th March 2017 they are also extending the warranty until 30th June and allowing service work to be carried out up to 3 months or 2000 miles late.
In the event of an M Car running in service they have asked the owners to contact them.

In defence of people looking for confirmation of the duration, yes, that link says 12 months but it was published on 25th March prior to the consultation. I haven't seen anything official since the change was implemented which mentions 12 months. From here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/vehicle-owners-...
A local independent garage has posted the below information on its website which is a somewhat different interpretation of the changes to the MOT requirement during the pandemic.
Upon Googling, I can't find any other sources of this information - even on the aforementioned Independent Garage Association (IGA) website so wondered if anyone else has heard of this.
(I have removed the name of the garage from the image as I don't want them to potentially get any abuse if this information is wrong).

To change the rules at 7 days notice would be very unfair as these things need to be booked in etc.
So what... It's exceptional times at the moment, so you're just going to have to roll with it. The health of the nation is slightly higher priority than an MOT cert.I queried this with the DVLA as my MOT expired on the 29th March and was basically told "Tough". (My test was booked in for the 28th but the garage cancelled & closed after the PM's announcement.)

I don't disbelieve it because as I said a few posts up, since the new rule came in 12 months isn't mentioned anywhere.

"Legislation will be introduced on 30 March 2020 and will come into immediate effect for 12 months, following a short consultation with key organisations. Drivers will still need to get their vehicle tested until the new regulations come into place, if they need to use it."

If the DVSA are incorporating their own revised rules, the gov.uk website doesn't reflect this.
