Congrats! I’ve just sent my first entry off in the post. If it’s not processed, I’m sending round Ice Pick Willie to sort them out.

And they’re not free entries. Stamp +postcard = 75p. That’s £7500 for every 10,000 entries they accidently lose. That’s fraud.
I'm not sure that amounts to fraud. They haven't made any money from the people sending in the free entry. It could be argued that as a result of the entry going missing that they gained from others paying to enter, but I aren't sure fraud is what that is. Perhaps a lawyer or solicitor could confirm?

Please don't encourage this ridiculous thought process.

Actually, I do hope he pays to seek legal advice hehe

Rules are rules, if they are required to accept free postal entries then that's what they need to do. Anyone arguing to the contrary is wrong. Fact.

And I do agree action should be taken, so what if Revcomps or Dreamcargiveaways gets some kind of punishment, it'll send a message to the rest to buck up their ideas.

This is a business, and these companies have been set up to make money but the rules of postal entries are clear so postal routes should be factored in to their margin calculations. End of.

The offense would be running an illegal lottery if systematically not accepting free entries, as its the free entries that allow them to operate as a draw in the first place. It would be very hard to prove though.

As I understand it they could be asked to prove that a significant number of entries are free. The sites that process some (a few sites seem to hover around 60-70%) probably assume they are doing enough to cover their backsides, they can prove they have a process, probably even an employee, so an individual entry 'going missing' is not going to be of interest to anyone. You'd need an investigation with a large data set to uncover -for example- 30% of entries being binned.

If you lived near the company, could you turn up at the premises and hand over your postcard entries?

Most have a clause that specifically does not allow this. I'm 5 minutes away from a popular tech comp site, sent around 10 entries over a few months and none were processed!

Some have PO boxes too (you can't send a 'signed for' letter to a PO box)

You can send signed for to PO boxes.

My conclusion was that there's no point in sending signed for. The companies than will bin normal post just bin the signed for ones too.

I guess you'd have a stronger case if you wanted to pursue it, but I agree it doesn't seem to make any difference in processing rate.

Let's assume some companies are slicing 30% off the pile and binning them (with all your personal details on them!), it's not going to make any difference if some of those were signed for. As far as I'm aware there is no requirement for a signature any more.

ones who don't process postals I would just not buy a ticket with them pretty simple.

For me the following have never processed postals:

Rkings
Bear competitions
Storm competitions
Elite (i think i may have had 1 entry from them about a year ago nothing since then)

Nice one - have entered

By the numbering guessing there is a bit of a stream of them

indeed - I entered a couple t'other day so these are new ones. I do wonder if that's a sign that some of the sites are in trouble - or is it just risk-free advertising?

I think things are slowing up for them. And loads more doing 99p or even 79p competitions to reduce the free postal entries.

DCG have widespread use of cash alts now too, certainly a big shift in these sites since the pandemic. Early sell-outs were very common, that barely seems to be a thing at all now.

At the same time though, if they sell out im pretty sure the margins look bigger. I used to assume a car was worth 70% of the ticket sales but I think it’s closer to 50% on most sites now.

However that’s if the comps sell out, takings might still be the same even if thousands of tickets are left.

All just a guess though. The DCG Porsche is so nice , picked a good one there and they seem to hold their money so well looking at the older Cayman GT4 that you could keep it years for relatively guilt free losses which I think would be a big consideration with such a sizeable cash alternative available

True.

However, 'some' people are happy to enter and be a part of the competition, but if they feel their tight arse methods won't get them a potential win then it's 'retribution' time and has nothing to do with how dodgy or not it is.

'some' people should be embarrassed with themselves.
Totally agree, it is embarrassing & reminds me of why I have never told anyone IRL that I use this forum laugh The posters seeking 'retribution' are the same posters that voice questionable opinions on other threads as well so I cant say I'm surprised.

It's all a bit shady, so people should accept that, rather than enforce one element of the rules that benefits them because they want something for nothing.

While most people using them don't have a gambling problem (I assume), the competitions should really be classed as, and regulated as, lotteries. They are not games of skill laugh, especially in this day-and-age when an answer can be Googled. I assume the authorities have larger fish to fry that than these comps sucking money from the poor and stupid*.

  • I enter some biggrin
Edit: they play loose with the rules which is why and how they exist...
