Nice to see the 211 getting some attention on the thread again. They tick a lot of boxes and in E500 guise they must make sense unless you really need the diesel.
Ref the balance shaft issues on the 350 petrol - r129 beat me to it with the engine codes; this is the only sure way of having some peace of mind. In general you could also assume the later the car the better.
I’d looked into the 350 issues extensively when considering an R230 SL350 which appeals over the 500 in that application as it ditches the ABC system and is a bit less nose heavy for a slightly more sporty steer. If you want more engine then you could just skip the 500 and dive in with an SL55
Anyway, is there some love for this facelift C215 - strong money but looks good:

Evening gentlemen, just playing 24 hour catch-up. Lots of interesting chat about the S211 and the V6 etc. If only I'd had this concise advice a couple of years ago when I was looking for my 320d replacement. Instead I had to do the leg work in reading up on reviews etc.
I've had my E320 nearly 2 years and as it's the facelift it's not got the SBC which was a big plus as I had to buy one for my SL. Ironically I'm interested in changing to a CLS so recent posts are of interest.
I've spotted one locally I like the look of its petrol but my diesel is poor on the Mpg so thinking it's not much of a hardship plus mileage is going to be lower going forward.
I'm contemplating trading the estate in against the CLS. It's 150k I'm third owner, recent rear air springs, brakes, services, many new parts. Running a treat though so worried I'll be trading good for bad and I can't be bothered with that hassle. Any ballpark on trade-in price? Cheers in advance.
Ps I don't yet know the engine number for the petrol CLS so that's number one check I need to do.
I've done just that 2 years ago. Only advice I would give on CLS is watch the spec it differs so much from one car to the next. I noticed the 500 posted earlier had memory seats (A rare option) but not heated seats a common option. All so they are heavy in front springs..so worth a check.I've had my E320 nearly 2 years and as it's the facelift it's not got the SBC which was a big plus as I had to buy one for my SL. I'd rather have memory than bum warmers, but as long as they're electric that will suffice. Love mine they are to my eyes a good looking car thats ages very well.
All the Mercs of this era are the same - they seemed to make a lot of equipment optional, hence the spec varies hugely between them. e.g. mine had memory dynamic seats both sides, but no bum warmers and the basic air con. Clearly a warm-weather driver who wanted minutely adjustable lumbar.

The CLS I've seen has part electric adjustment which is just fine as I'm the only one driving it. Heated seats are essential for me for early morning starts in cold weather. One thing that annoys me with Merc heaters is they quickly drop from full on to next setting after about 5 mins. BMW they stay on the setting you select until you adjust it.
I'm not needing to change but have a bit of a notion and if the price difference wasn't too great then it might work out.
They can send a walk around video if requested and I think solo test drives.
I'll sleep on it for now 😴 and see what this week brings.

Wheels with a hint of Max Power notwithstanding, that looks rather classy. After my recent XJ purchase i look more and more at all the XJ's i see on the road. Theyre relatively common and yet a left field choice (rather than the "typical" a8, 7 series, s class etc)
Truly lovely car and i would wager much more reliable than its contemporaries having no turbo, no diesel emmissions rubbish and when it does go wrong relatively cheap repairs due to its ford influence. Really glad i got in to it and all my neighbours think ive splashed out and are all gobsmacked when i tell them i parted with 700 measly pound.

I have those wheels on my XJ8, the design is called 'custom' and I've always wondered if they were heavily influenced by the Ferarri F355 wheels:
The car looks good but £4k feels maybe £500 too strong to me. If I was buying another one I'd probably look for the '06 MY version without the rubbing strips, double glazed glass, and other updates but before the highly questionable X358 facelft.. Ideally in that little window between the model year update and the 'pull your pants down' RFL.

I don’t know the mood here for a 9000. I’ve always quite liked them and whilst it has got a slightly tatty wing I think that this isn’t overly expensive.
There are a couple of positives according to the ad: it goes like the clappers and was owned by a doctor.
Aero
For some reason I can’t post the photo but to use words - it’s in a field, the car is green and it has a tow bar.

I loved my Aero, but whilst it was cleaner than that one on top it was rotten underneath where the rear suspension mounts so definitely would want to get right under one if I were buying again. Seems decent value though. There are a couple of positives according to the ad: it goes like the clappers and was owned by a doctor.

This is looking like it might go for inside thread. A tad miley but looks nice.
