To be fair we have done very well on VED rates in the UK
Most places in Europe have high taxes on vehicles and very high purchase prices.

I think the time is here to consider your keeper barge, one if the ideas being kicked about for economic recovery is investment in green tech, so promotion of EVs charging infrastructure renewables etc
I wouldn't be surprised to see big taxes on ice and a big push to get us into milk floats.

How long till the Tesla barge I wonder.

Why throw away a great opportunity...
Almost as if there's some sort of agenda.

I'm sure I'll get told off for going 'off topic' (as conversations in the real world never deviate from one subject!), but the smarter ones among us will soon begin to realise that every aspect of the cost of living is going to go up, and every aspect of the standard of our living is going to go down.
Not long now until the waves begin to hit the shore.
HTH.

Model S values are holding surprisingly strong! I think it'll be the more ubiquitous Model 3 which will drop into thread budget first, but not for a good while yet.

Anyone in our noble band hand an F10? They're creeping towards thread in petrol form now, although a lot of the big-engined ones are miles away yet, the odd 523i is getting there.

e.g. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202... Up for thread budget before haggle.

Quite handsome cars, and a nice-looking interior superficially. Never been in one though.

My wife had the f11 520d touring in quite a nice spec. The engine refinement let an otherwise excellent package down. If it had 6 cylinders she would have kept it, but she changed for a Volvo v90. This looks better, but I don't think is better than the BMW in any aspect tbh.

I like them a lot more than E60s. Not sure I'd want a manual or to spend £5k on one with those miles, but they're coming down.

I also hate the smaller nav screen in them with the large blanking panels, which I'm sure have "cheap bd" moulded into their reverse.

I’d have been driving around in a CLS for a couple of years if only they’d had a 3 belt bench option in the back. I love how they look.

As long as I have 5 usable seats that’s as practical as it gets.
I believe that a 211 back seat is a really simple change and all the mounting points are already in place for the middle belt etc

If that was polished and preened and detailed to within an inch of its life, and a pal called around in it and claimed it was six months old, I would probably believe them.

Echo the sentiments Northbrook, awful news.

Micro sheddybarge, £325 for a V40 2.0 petrol. Don’t seem to get too many functioning cars at this money, MOT history is OK too. Needs some tyres and paste on an exhaust leak, not sure I’d worry about a minor oil leak...

Good morning, chaps (and any quietly-lurking chapesses).

I had some sobering news over the weekend - my cousin was killed in a car accident (fire) last week.

We don't yet know what happened, but it's a timely reminder to respect your car's inherent danger, and to keep safe.

Here's wishing everyone years of comfy bargemiles to come.
Sorry for your loss

The trouble with these is battery life by the time they're in budget will they be any good?

Even if it's down to 50% it'll still be more than I need for 98% of my daily journeys.

The market under used electric cars is expanding more quickly than electric cars are ageing, so values are very stable.

In three years with my leaf it has doubled in age, and I've tripled its mileage (22 to 66k), and it's still worth within £2k of the £9k I paid.

(No noticeable battery degradation at all in that time, and wiper blades have been the most expensive maintenance item, besides tyres)

I think this is a significantly nicer car than the S212. But the diesels have terrible reputations for frailty. I don't know if that's fully merited or not.

With the tiny amount of mileage I do normally two trips one there on monday one back on friday, electric cars do interest me but the thought of having a dodgy battery suddenly going from 25% to nothing like phones do as they get older is the problem for me

I really like these, which engines are the best/most reliable? A work friend had a later 528i with the turbo 4 pot and it was very nice

Id second the fragility point above. My 2010 e91 died with high pressure diesel pump failure. A very messy and expensive fix. Based on that and the stories of v8s on this forum, I don't think I'd buy a BMW out of warranty again.
