Of course, my pampered car has thanked me for its new headlining by springing a brake fluid leak at the left rear. Off to the specialist on Monday...
Call from the garage, the rear caliper is leaking. That's the rear caliper that was brand new three years and three thousand miles or so ago. Bugger. Ah well, part on order, car will be ready tomorrow. It's probably my fault, I don't use the car enough, and lack of use causes problems. My Super V8 hit the limiter at just over 160mph (260kph) and so did my 650i. The M6 gets to indicated 170mph when it hits its limiter.
I think so yes. BigBen said:

If you can de-limit my 1973 350SLC to a mere 300kph I'll be very impressed!
Sorry offer was only open to threadists near Cambridge, which Luxembourg isn't. Shame as I could definitely do it.Ben

I would be amazed if any modernish electronic speedo was out by as much as 10%, unless the car is fitted with tyres of an incorrect rolling circumference.
Bil checking progress in Germany couldn't differentiate between the GPS reading and the car's analogue instrument.
Prepare to be amazed. They’re all out!Bil checking progress in Germany couldn't differentiate between the GPS reading and the car's analogue instrument.

Hey, I may be wromg but I thought speedos had an overeating error built in until GPS tech came around? Pretty sure an e46 m3 cabrio doesn't do 170mph does it? Always assumed they were limited to 155 and 155 plus 10% equals indicated 170 was my thinking,.but, perhaps I'm very wrong. Won't be first, nor the last time...
Years ago when roadtester journalists actually did the job, Autocar reported that the Maserati Merak speedo over read by almost 40 mph at max. Legally allowable speedo error is up to 10% at specified speeds, surprising that anything made during the past 30 years would be that bad: BMWs ain't what they used to be.
You're right about the M3 not cracking 155 though.
Caveat: I too have been wrong previously.

155k but seems to drive very well indeed. Manual 2.5 straight 6. The paint is a bit flat and there are a couple of bubbles on one side, but it has had a new hood, starter, alloy refurb and suspension bits recently.
I quite fancied a Z4 but I'm not sure I'd fit in one. I seem to recall the auto boxes can have problems with reverse and there won't be space for me to use a manual. Otherwise I'd have been pretty happy with one.155k but seems to drive very well indeed. Manual 2.5 straight 6. Has the roof motor been relocated to the boot?

My latest fancy is an E350 CGI in estate form.
Can't find one anywhere though.
Isn't that V6 the engine equivalent of a grenade with the pin pulled? Can't find one anywhere though.

indicated 170 in a BMW with limited is real 155 as far as i know? . Mates m3 e46 did the same. 155 real plus 10% overead on speedo equals indicated 170...

Thread-types of all people should know KPH isn't a measurement of speed.
Km/h.
CdG - having served in Germany, you should know this!
I stand corrected, but that probably won't be the last thing I get wrong this week, I have form for stupidity. Km/h.

Going on my experince an e46 m3 hits its limiter easily, so a real 155mph (indicated 170mph). Delimited they are said to go just past 170 real.
https://www.automobile-catalog.com/Is an excellent source of (real, not manufacturer claimed) performance data, including delimited figures
They suggest 171 mph for a delimited mid run E46 M3 cab, but the 30.8 seconds for the 10 mph increment from 150 to 160 indicates that it would need a very long straight to get there.

The speedo in the LS460 is pushing 10% out. I've got a GPS speedometer app on the new audio system thing I had fitted late last year and it is around 10% out, or not far off.
Shocking; I would have expected reasonable accuracy from the Japs.Edited by John Locke on Monday 29th June 14:14

I know someone with a 2.2 Z3 that makes a lovely noise. 155k but seems to drive very well indeed. Manual 2.5 straight 6. The paint is a bit flat and there are a couple of bubbles on one side, but it has had a new hood, starter, alloy refurb and suspension bits recently.
Do manual Z4s have the clutch delay valve?
I've taken the opportunity to VMAX my XJ8 and MX5 over the last couple of months, it's hard to see why you shouldn't when you come across a totally empty stretch of "autobahn" with nothing behind you and nothing in front for miles. XJ8 bumped into it's 155MPH limited quite easily and my MX5 was quite exciting at 140MPH with the roof down.
My favourite VMAX experience was hitting the rev limiter in top (3rd!) gear in an XJRS. The speedo always went mad over 130MPH so I have no idea what speed it thinks that was but judging from the gearing and tyre sizes it must have been 160+
Coming back down to 90MPH ish when you catch up with other cars always feels like walking pace after that though.
