The newest I could see on AT,

Anyone knows the timing kit service for this model? Any potential things to look for? Seems motorway miles from 2013.
Excellent cars and a good choice. Not really premium though.
But exactly the sort of car you want other people to buy on your advice. Find them an S-class that just about fits their criteria and they won't thank you for it.

Pondering a second car this morning. I still have a hankering for a v8 and figure with a driveway that can easily fit two cars, why not? It need not be reliable as there is always another option!

Caveat would be that it would have to be sufficiently old to attract classic insurance, to keep costs sensible, and sufficiently easy for an amateur home mechanic to work on himself. And the purchase price should be below thread max.

I am very tempted by a non-barge, a TVR 350i. There seems to be very few for sale though. When I considered these a year or so ago there were plenty at or below thread max...
At least with a TVR your driveway mechanical and electrical skills will improve exponentially smile

For something less temperamental yet simple to work on with cheap parts what about an SN95 series Mustang GT... There should be a few around your budget that'll get you a nice woofly American V8

Yes, an old Mustang, sensible idea. I know these American v8s are meant to be very reliable. Once my house renovations are out the way and funds have recovered a C5 Corvette is top of my shopping list...

Engines are indestructible, gearboxes usually good. Air suspension can go wrong but not expensive to sort. Pre facelift 99-02 electrics can be iffy also the sills/cills can be the consistency of a Cadbury flake. The rest of the body enjoys rusting too.

03 on far better.
Thanks for the top tips, would you include an 53 plate as being far better

So in summary the 3 main points to check are rust, rust and rust biggrin

If you were looking at a TVR - you may as well just buy an old Range Rover classic for the same 'running costs' experience.

Cheering you on, Swampy - go win the thread!

Today's date is also somewhat apposite - Twin T Tendencies Day smile

Has anyone got a link for this £3.5k SV8 that I definitely shouldn’t even be looking at pictures of, let alone contemplating buying...

But what will the neighbours say? Will they assume the boiler man is round and just hasn't left?

Just checked the S600TT advert again and it now mentions a cat N marker that it didn’t before. I hope our intrepid thread buyer is aware!

Have we had this? Apologies if so.

E38 740i with LPG in Marlborough, Wilts. Nice forest green colour with prosthetic limb coloured leather. Has memory seats and a sunroof. MOT looks like some suspension refreshing and brake hose (perishing with age?) replacing could be required but otherwise it looks lovely.

£2.5k

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...
That strikes me as good value. Oxford green too. I am happy to look at it for any serious bargista as not far away.

With picture

This is one of two 740s that I see regularly in Marlborough, and definitely the nicer one. Also happy look at it for anyone serious.

I want to like it, but who thought saying "yes cutting a hole right in the side is a great idea"..?

Ick. And I'm all for LPG if it keeps cars on the road that otherwise wouldn't be.

Incoming for PrinceRupert:

Last serviced at Jaguar (only 5 years ago) and sporting a nice set of wheels and new rubber. At this price you can buy it, keep the 75 and still have change from what the last one was going to cost. 2 for the price of 1. It is the thread way.

Supercharged XF just a touch over thread max

It could probably be had for thread max.

Could be very good VFM, but why would you sell after spending so much on work being done.
He’s obviously not the owner, I realise. Just a dealer.
No, I'm not the owner but neither am I a trader involved in the purchase and sale of motor vehicle for profit. 'We' are involved in the motor trade but in the MOT, Service and repair of motor vehicles. This car was the personal daily transport of the Chairman of the company I work for and is registered in his name.
What sort of nutter would I have to be to take a punt on this. I don't have a lot of beardage on the XF front or know what goes wrong with these bad boys.
