I’m still in the hunt for a 4.2 x350 (supercharged or not) but lack of heated seats and heated windscreen means a no from me on this one. Plus not too keen on interior. The waiting game continues!
My X350 beard is shorter than I thought - I assumed heated screen and seats (front at least) was standard kit!

Out of thread range, but I hadn't realised Audi did a 3.0 supercharged petrol Allroad...

Less prone to issues than the V8?

Well it won't have the V8 issues, but it will have the supercharged issues, and the rest of the All road ones. You should definitely buy it.

I have nothing good to say about Audi’s, or the over-whelming majority of their drivers.

Managed to get a w220 delivered to me this evening. Suspension is on its arse and it smells of weed apart from that and the tow bar it seems ok. Parked it next to its twin for the photo.

Cd changer full of Czech rap music but at least it shows it works :-)

I was a bit surprised at the price when I clicked on the ad, 7.5k for an 11 year old 100k mile Audi, rare or not, I've got an Octavia vrs estate which is one year older and has about 125k on it, certainly not in as good condition as the Audi appears to be but I would have thought my car would be worth in the region of a grand. I think there are much better options out there for the money being asked for that Audi.

Then remap it. 400bhp and loads of practicality in an anonymous estate.

From 2004 you’re usually OK and from 2005 on even better as more things became standard and they introduced more trim levels, but 2003 is pretty random for specifications I find and more about individual options in the first year of production.

Cheering you on, Swampy - go win the thread!

Today's date is also somewhat apposite - Twin T Tendencies Day smile
  • I knew about the Cat N as I HPI'd it before travelling*
Sorry for the late reply, I had to deal with Norwich's imminent demise from the Premiership then a date in the pub so no time etc post!

So.... I dont want to reveal too many details for fear of being usurped? The owner was a lovely man, has a few big Merc's so knows his onions. Very accommodating, encouraged my code reading, made me a brew. Engine, perfectly fine, gearbox, perfectly fine, suspension...............
Everything operates as advertised but there is a litany of error codes, 3 screens worth on my Snap On machine. And a leaking rear shock, so I'm currently doing man maths. Also some sort of grumbling bearing in the engine bay with no known source. Could it be the ABC pump? Or a belt tensioner? Plus other errors for TPS and brake wear.
All in all a huge financial risk, but what car could be more on thread?

Agreed.

I can count the number of car seats that look good in two-tone leather on the fingers of no hands.

A lovely, lovely thing. The only thing that scares me about the car is the ABC out of the 15 w220’s I’ve gone through this year only one had ABC.

Airmatic rear shock about £60 ABC rear £175. It’s the other stuff though and a lot of it is shared with the SL. It would be an amazing thing to own if you can spanner and plan on keeping it a long time. It’s getting on for half the price of a non cat car too.

Also multiple error codes on these can be down to the battery. It needs a quality newish giant 020 in it so many faults disappear with a new battery even if the old one seems ok. Happy to let you borrow a known good one to try.

Sorry in advance, I know this is well over thread budget but I really do value the expertise that resides in this thread.

I don't know much about this generation of 5 series, they don't seem to get much airtime on here. It looks like my ideal car, I'm hoping you can talk me out of it with tales of woe on how bad this model/engine are as I've just spent far more than my 9-3 is worth fixing a leak.

Dont suppose you've got a good ABC rear shock? biggrin I can spanner with the best of them, the long term I'm not sure, current owner daily's it when he's home. Re keeping long term, thats my biggest problem, I dont haha

I do have one in, but I’m not sure if that constitutes advertising. So I’ll say no more but my pms are open.

That looks lovely. Shame it doesn't have comfort seats though.
