I still regret selling my 2004 D5 manual early last year with 222k miles and for about 18 months in my ownership all it needed was a replacement brake caliper and routine maint. Sold it to a young lad at work and its still going strong with north of 250k miles now. CharlesdeGaulle said:

Mercedes S212 350 CDI bought from my father as he was offered a pittance from the dealer on a trade in and it seemed like an easy way to get a newer car with a known history. In twelve months of ownership it has got through a power steering pump (for the second time in four years) and a load of high pressure pipes and is now running in limp mode waiting for the new inlet manifolds to arrive from Germany. So twelve months of ownership will be more expensive than ten years with the Volvo. I plan to get shot of it as soon as the latest bill is paid which will then no doubt give the next owner years of trouble free motoring.
Honestly once the novelty of the Mercedes torque wears off the Volvo felt a better car in every way........ except the turning circle
It often returned over 50mpg.

A friend of mine put nearly 200k miles on one of these with no faults at all apart from service items you’d expect.

You're now too late for Autodoc this weekend. Euro Car Parts will deliver to an exhaust place, they do both Halfords Autocentres and Kwik-Fit now. Best to find a local place near to where you'll be, give them your VIN and possibly the last registered UK plate and ask them to get an exhaust or components in for you. Ideally get it inspected before you travel for a quote and ask them to show you and explain on the ramp what has gone. If you really aren't sure, pre book a custom exhaust place that won't baulk if you mention the words mandrel bend. I've had a quick Google and there's Maniflow https://www.maniflow.co.uk/?view=category&cate... but I can't see if they're open on Saturday or that they do fitting (images on Google Maps suggest they do) or there's Powerflow near Southampton if you're travelling that way or Powerflow in Shaftesbury. Any of those can weld in replacements or quote appropriately, I'm sure. Strongly recommend you call them ASAP to avoid disappointment. Feel free to PM if I can help any more.

Re the inlet manifolds, if it’s the rod(s) that adjust the swirl flaps, we had the same issue with our 211, but as it was just 5 at the time MB paid 75% from memory. There are now kits for £20-30 which replace the broken rods and bearings and save the manifolds from scrapping.
