Re the inlet manifolds, if it’s the rod(s) that adjust the swirl flaps, we had the same issue with our 211, but as it was just 5 at the time MB paid 75% from memory. There are now kits for £20-30 which replace the broken rods and bearings and save the manifolds from scrapping.
Thanks for this, I know the intake actuator motor is toast so it would seem logical that the swirl flap rods are knackered too. I'll look into it further.deeen said:

Absolutely this Oa: our v90 has the rubbish turning circle, 20inch wheels with 35 section tyres and a poor ride. That's "progress."
It just means that when the tyres/wheels get damaged (more often!), it costs a fortune to get them fixed! Very much fashion I guess... one day small wheels and fat tyres will be in fashion once again, and big wheels with rubber bands seen as non-Saab 3 spoke wheels harrykul said:
They're a really nice car, look great and with fantastic seats, but in pretty much every way the equivalent BMW or Merc is slightly better to be honest. Just that extra bit of polish in the drivetrain, electronic interfaces etc.
Fair enough, I was getting the feeling that they don’t have quite the budget of the Germans. I’d be having a change after BMW number 9 though! 55palfers said:
One owner W124 wagen in red with mushroom leather.
A smidge over budget but it does sport a terrific boot liner.

That’s lovely, just such a shame it’s lacking so much engine.A smidge over budget but it does sport a terrific boot liner.

But perhaps it’s appropriate as thread has descended into desperation to wave ones fuel economy about, a curious thing to bother with given most thread fodder...

CLK 500 at £4K.
Looks pretty nice, reasonable mileage.

The Volvo felt very well put together.
We've had a few niggles with ours, door locks giving up the ghost, speakers going pop and the main one being the fuel tank filler breaking so that we were low on fuel but couldn't put any juice in it! Also, strangely for a modern car, it doesn't have brake pad wear sensors. As Mrs Kul drives this car, you can imagine how/when I found out the brakes needed done....My uncle had a V70 like yours with the Audi diesel engine. That felt like it was built to last forever: this one doesn't. You could apply that to any modern though I suppose...

Indeed; anything which beats 10 mpg is absolutely fine. But perhaps it’s appropriate as thread has descended into desperation to wave ones fuel economy about, a curious thing to bother with given most thread fodder...
All this talk of volvos, what’s people’s thoughts on the S80 saloon?
A couple for sale not too far from me, and I’m in need of a car sharpish due to lease going back and the want to give barging a try after reading this thread for years
2006 s80 3.2se geartronic £3400 ( too much?) tax is a bit pricey at £565 But it’s petrol which leads me on to the other which is the s80 2.4d SE lux £2500, both silver low owner cars, mileage on petrol 73k diesel 103k
I know next to nowt about Volvos so any thoughts most welcome.
