But an important part of the story...
I disagree. It has no more significance than any of the other badge-engineered FIATs. The Ibiza marked the end of that era. The Marbella was an unfortunate carry-over from it.

Back in 2007, I had 2003 Toledo V5. It was a very good car, fully loaded apart from a sunroof. Even had half leather, half alcantara seats. The engine was fantastic, 170 bhp and 160 lb/ft torque. Very smooth. I think it was shame they were over looked to the Leon, the boot was huge! In my eyes, it was very proportioned as well.
Vastly superior to the Golf and Bora that it was based on. The Toledo used the interior and dash from the Audi A3 of the time and was a true class act of a car.

By that time I was driving a Bora VR6 but always cast an envious eye on the Toledo because the interior was so much better.

I had a Seat Cordoba WRC replica. Not many of those where sold but my father was a Seat dealer.

I agree, the interior was solid. 10 disc cd changer in the glove box as well!

I always found the Toledo to drive better than the equivalent VW Bora that was very stodgy.

In my past I used to drive literally thousands of cars and did a stint with Seat. My favourite was the Toledo 1.8 20vT Sport with 180bhp essentially a booted Leon Cupra/latterly FR. plus it was a good couple of thousand cheaper than the Leon. Only it didn't shout about it so was more under the radar.

There was also the 150bhp TDI from the Golf GTI PD TDI. Toledo proved to be a very reliable underrated car.

I also had a 2,3 V5 Toledo 170 bhp as a commuter shed, for probably 5 years. What a terrific car for the money, £1600 and 68,00 miles when I bought it.

Well appointed, comfortable, nimble, would scoot along very nicely indeed. Really overlooked as a car. I’d happily have another, I quite miss it!

I've had a 2009 SEAT Ibiza 1.4 SC for four years and 50,000 miles now, and although it will never set the world on fire with its 85bhp, it has been a reliable little work horse horse.

I'v grown quite fond of it!

It's worth less than shed money (95K miles and >10yrs old) but it still looks reasonably smart and modern.

Apart from consumables, a broken spring and a broken driver door cable, it's been a reliable little thing.

Probably due a cam belt replacement now though...

Nobody mentioned the Seat Exeo yet, the reheated A4 B7? Probably not a bad car and I've seen one with Audi badges fitted. laugh

They weren't a resounding success in the UK.

I had one of those. Loved that car, Good looking, reliable. Decently quick too, especially after remap to 190bhp / 295lbs.ft

Back in early 2003 a work colleagues 2000 Leon Cupra was up for replacement so I had a word with the fleet manager and managed to buy it.

A brilliant car, especially as it had the optional leather seats with electric adjustment and driver's memory!

I always thought that 1st Generation Leon was a much better looker than the contemporary Golf, A3 and Octavia.

Sadly after about 18 months I got promoted into a different job that would involve business miles so I ended up replacing it with a diesel. rolleyes

A few of years after passing my test I was fortunate enough to own one of these. As a 20 year old I thought I was the dog's bks and only sold it to get a VX220.

Fantastic looking thing

I’m a bit of a Seat fanboy having owned a 2000 Toledo 1.8 20v, 2006 Leon FR TFSI, 2010 Ibiza Cupra, 2013 Leon FR 184 and most recently a Cupra Ateca.

In general I find them good value for money if bought nearly new or with a good discount. In most cases I would have preferred the VW equivalent but they were always significantly more expensive and the residuals weren’t sufficiently better to make it work.

I've had a boggo facelift 6J 1.4 Ibiza for the past five years whilst sorting my life out in order to get something a bit sportier.

For a Polo in drag that isn't the last word in sporty handling I've flung it round the EVO triangle and various country roads throughout the land and it's always done well.

I do like me a Seat, wouldn't mind a Leon Cupra when I'm in the position to change unless they bring out a new Ibiza Cupra that's actually decent. The last one wasn't allegedly.

Always was a massive fan of the Cordoba WRC. The Ibiza F2 set the tone for looking great on the stages but the Cordoba, especially in facelifted form was a great looking thing. Shame it was st, although that make it even more endearing.

So they briefly made their own cars in between selling rebadged Fiat's and VW's.

Couldn't really think of two duller brands to partner with.

Look at the connections SEAT have had albeit very tenuous and tongue in cheek here...

System Porsche - Porsche!

Luc Donckerwolke designed - what did he last do before this? - Lamborghini!

Exeo B7 A4 - Audi! Everyone loves them! (apparently)

Those flip key fobs. Briefly the same used on early Bugatti Veyrons. Bugatti and SEAT had the same key! Goddamn it. Bugatti!

Loved my Mk1 Leon Cupra R. The B-road pace of a Civic Type-R, but without the spine-jarring ride and also relaxed / quiet like a Golf on motorways (3500rpm in 6th = 145km/h).
It was reliable (I upgraded VAG’s every-expense-spared spec OE coil packs) and compared to friends’ Golfs and Octavias its cabin was rattle- and squeak-free.
The only head scratcher was the leather gear knob and steering wheel: the black coating wore away to reveal red leather. Presumably VAG bought a job lot of cheap red leather wheels and knobs and recoated them? confused
Very much looking forward to the new Leon Cupra - if it goes as well as it looks...

Cherry blossom liquid shoe polish sorts that out actually. Same with the steering wheel.

I've owned two seats over my driving career.

my very first car was e813uwm. A seat ibiza 903cc 'designer' model. It was so much better than all my friends at the time as it had a 5 speed gearbox whereas most uno, polo and nova drivers only had a 4 speed!

My second was a toledo v5 which was loaded with toys for the time including sat nav. It was the better 20v version with 170bhp whereas most other vag cars with the v5 engine made do with the 10v 150 bhp version.

I really liked that car, the v5 had a lovely engine noise but it also had a great thirst so it didn't last too long!

Ah yeah the sat nav with the adjustable screen angle. My first car with sat nav, pretty hi spec for 2003. I looked online to see the car had been scrapped in the end due to post owners not looking after it. I thought what a waste as I had spent time and money looking after that plus I had it lowered as well.
