My question to you is will they be able to get anything off the retail price and if so how? Just by going in with similar ones on the market and saying a,b & c are cheaper can you match it?
Yep, however the increase in the part ex price could be coming out of the margin in the Kuquat, the sales guy may have picked up on your parents being all about the part ex.

Yes, this. By all means, ask, just be prepared for a ‘no’ and decided if you want the car regardless of the answer.

Ok thanks for the replies. Will pass on the information.

Does it make any difference with their leverage if they are paying the remaining balance in cash?

Not really. Paying with finance gets the dealer commission, cash doesn’t. We give people the same price for a car either way.

Same here, same regardless, ultimately though "cash" isn't a benefit, tell them not to use the "cash" angle, it's just a bit cringe and 80's.

Somewhat ironically, that was probably the last time someone paid cash for a car.
Isn't 95% (maybe more!?) now financed one way or the other.

For new cars perhaps, but not for used.

Well just be thankful someone financed it when it was new then otherwise there wouldn't be many used cars to buy.

Im buying a new car for Mrs BR
If we order it now, from stock, with the current plate (20) will it be worth any less than the new plate(70) at resale or do the trade just work on the year these days?
As a punter,I find the new plate system a bit confusing so I know I always look for the year in any advert.

Not a dealer but I've heard anecdotal evidence that the late year reg change 67, 68 etc confuses some buyers and they (buyers) prefer the Mar reg. However a dealer would give you more for the newer car

The 70 plate will be worth slightly more at resale time, all other things being equal - after all, would you rather have a 20 or 70 plate in 3 years time?
Can't see it making a huge difference though smile

2 year rust guarantee, free underseal and 6000 mile service intervals on a Fiat. How things change eh!

Love the options on the R5, floor gearchange for £30, go on then!

I was just reading on Twitter an American car journo complaining about their culture of dealers just selling new cars from stock (rather than customers picking their own spec, and getting it made to order) and how it was 'forcing' buyers into dull choices because they didn't stock the more interesting cars in a range and salesmen just sold what was it stock for immediate delivery.

Do any of the dealers in this country do that model of sales or would customers expect too much of a discount for a pre-reg/ex-demo/in-stock/etc car?

If you skip you'll miss that the expensive Fiesta comes with seatbelts and carpets as standard.
