Totally depends on the spec of the car, but black wheels often make a car look cheap. Prefer gunmetal grey to black or silver in most cases.

I think my car would look odd with silver wheels!

My dark grey Megane 275 looked brilliant with satin black wheels.

I have a very outlandish theory though: It's subjective and down to personal taste.

My car as it was when I bought it.

My car as it stands now.

Not the best pics, but I much prefer the silver. The design of the wheel (and many others) gets totally lost in black IMO.

I think the silver makes the car look newer and fresher also.

I can’t think of any example where a black alloy wheel looks better than a silver one, including the examples on this thread

Black steel wheels are a different subject!

Black wheels just make you look like you have no wheel trims or you have steelies on, have to get close to see the details in the wheel so not a fan

I love a Porsche with black wheels and a silver rim. That's been going on for decades. I think black wheels suit some cars more than others, I do however think that the 'murdered out' black on black on black look is a tasteless choice.

Agree. Madness to spend a whole load of money on pretty, intricate, styled black wheels that from a distance look like any black budget wheel.

They did, BF Goodrich released tyres with coloured stripes in them, and Highway Max in Australia sell coloured tyres for the express purpose of making coloured smoke when engaged in the fine Aussie tradition of a monster burnout.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I don't think black wheels look good on 99% of cars. They look cheap and nasty and get 'lost' in the arches and against the tyres.

I don't mind some black elements (although I don't really like the black on the wheels of my car ironically!) and it's not that I want all wheels silver - I do like gun-metal grey too although this again depends on the colour of the car. For example, I didn't really like the grey wheels on my E36 328i with the Stahlblau paintwork.

I think I just buy cars with wheels I don't like. I didn't like the design of the alloys on the Focus ST Mk2 when it launched and I bought one of those anyway... hehe My favourite wheels on cars I've owned were the ones on my 123d. Lovely.

I like black wheels on some cars, and silver wheels on other cars. I also like grey and body coloured wheels. Its all personal taste. In this case, I like the attitude the black wheels give to the Jag.

Hooray! The voice of reason. I can’t stand them. They look so cheap. I hate seeing an Aston or Porsche with them.

With a few exceptions, black wheels make it look like your wheel trims fell off.
