No they’re satin black painted. I got a stone chip from a gravel trap and it was an easy job to touch up.

I’ve steered clear of the carbon rims. They’re pretty and save 10kg of unsprung mass but they’re very expensive to repair and believe me the car is not the limiting factor!
I can imagine the wheel holder in a mono is the blocker for going faster!
yes

I did a side by side comparison video of me and one of the AMG works drivers both in my car round Silverstone and there was a 10 second difference rofl

I need more practice!

I've worked extensively with prototype cars in the past. Part of the camouflage strategy was always to paint the wheel rims black to obscure the detail in the design.

I always therefore associate cars that have black rims with being horribly unreliable, glitchy and poorly assembled pieces of junk, and for that reason I can't ever see black rims as a good thing.

As a rule I don’t really like black wheels but I think they suit mine and I love the Mono!

Usually a big silver fan but I think it gets away with it with the carbon

Car isn't wrapped yet* and the silver wheels pic is missing roundels because previous owner didn't glue them in properly and are 18 inch whilst new black wheels are 17s but I still think black wheels look better. (new wheels also not got bmw roundels on yet as only changed them day ago.)

  • carbon black paint is more blue than black so looks a tad off with the wheels atm and as it stands if I had got the new wheels in silver I dare say it would look better, probably going to go a darkish green with the wrap though and so I got black wheels as will look better in the future.

Aiming for similar to this...

Sorry but your car looks far better with the silver wheels.

I did the wheels first due to performance reasons but I think the standard rims didn't look great even before the roundels fell off. In direct comparison of one or the other I prefer the new black ones

I will agree with you the black rims aren't ideal yet as the car is far from finished and if you take it in the form I presented it would have been nicer of i got the new ones in silver. The car is far from done though, it has to get birds suspension/roll bars/quaife done, back bumper to 1m style + exhaust changed to 4 tip and maybe sports cat Then comes all the styling, wrapped, side repeaters changed, headlights changed (they are oem angel eyes but a bit yellow not fully white) head unit, front two seats etc.

I added a photo of the kind of color I'm going for in my original post now for you to see better.

It's 2022, we've survived COVID, and yet I still see people driving around in cars with black wheels... when will it end?!

It's surely a known fact that black wheels look st, are these people being deliberately obtuse? confused
Yes, I chose black wheels on my car to annoy the people who don't like black wheels.
confused
Yeah, me too! Fortunately it seems to be working, otherwise it would have been such a waste of time and effort! laugh

My daily go kart Mini Cooper S came with black wheels, I wouldn’t specify them myself if I bought the car new, however neither am I inclined to pay to have them changed to silver. However, yes I’d order silver wheels if I bought it new.

What baffles me is the number of people who installed crappy silver wheels, clearly with the express intentional of annoying me since I don't like them. It would seem that 80% of the drivers on the road have made their cars look crap just to annoy me!

Fortunately the joke is on them because I'm bright enough not to be upset by how someone makes their own car look and so they just end up driving around in rubbish looking cars for no reason. biggrin

I think for track days it makes a lot of sense, black wheels and motorsport seem to go together, if only to hide the brake dust and marbles stuck to the rims!

The thing with gloss black wheels is that they are very labour intensive to keep clean, so along with the fact that I think they don't look particularly nice because they hide detail puts me off them. The high gloss black wheels on my FK8 were terrible for looking dull and shabby after being washed unless they were fully dried off, which is something I never previously had to do with any car.
Silver is my preferred colour for wheels, but my current car has a combination of silver and gloss black which I think looks pretty good. Again though the black shows up water spots after being washed but not as much as previously so I do not bother drying the wheels.

Full silver wheels are my most favourite too(because diamond cut wheels can corrode easily if they've had a dodgy refurb like they have on my M4). However like you I do like the style of the wheels on the GLE400d though. They are an easy wheel to clean as welI I think.

Yes I do like the style of your wheels. beer

They are easy to clean as you say, which is an important point for me and a reason why I generally do not like multi spoke wheels.
There are 3 trim levels for my car all with different wheel designs...mine is the middle 'Premium' trim and just by coincidence has the wheel I like the best. smile

Absolutely. You can fully appreciate the wheel design now.
