I've always been a BMW fan but I'm seriously starting to go off them with these massive horrible grilles they keep adding to their new cars.

The E46 straight 6 and E92 high revving V8 we’re real high points IMO, but hard to find great used examples already.

BMW have had to better the previous performance figures whilst reducing CO2. Combine that with various EU regs on safety and basically all cars are converging to become very similar. RS4 v M3 comparisons used to be interesting, but neither have a USP any more. Mercedes had the V8, but this is going to be gone with the next generation.

I honestly think the rear 3/4 view and the rear roof line are worse than the front, really weak and derivative to my eyes. The 8 is similarly awkward. At least the front of this has some chutzpah... even if it is from the rodent school of car design. The previous concepts posted earlier are stunning... what happened??

I think it’s kinda cool..would look better with bigger arches, bigger wheels and better fitment-maybe that’s a Competition edition there. I’d get one in Fire Orange with a black grille

Needs a number plate on their fast, that grill looks hideous without it.

I like it. I think the large vertical kidney grille has historic precedent. I think its refreshing to see something different.

Absolute howler from BMW - and I love M Cars. 2 things:

1. There are some amazing deals on M4s on the classifieds where dealers have had to take on stock- £40k for a brand new M4 and £45k for the Comp - there's over 30 out there with delivery mileage - very tempting to bag a bargain!

2. this was the perfect opportunity to use this styling for the front - which would have been amazing! I really wish they had made this car.

I've said this a few times - stick that nose (maybe slightly toned down) on the 4 series and add some mustang-style box/flaired rear arches and you've got a really good looking coupe. As it is it's a fail.

My simple brain is unable to cope with change. I have a chip on my shoulder. I have never seen or driven this car but I’ve decided I don’t like it, and will therefore project my insecurities and shortcomings onto everyone else.

Or I might wait and see what it looks and drives like before spitting my dummy out. Haven’t decided yet.
There’s picture of it so you can, we see what it looks like. The 4 series has been released officially so you get a pretty good idea if what it looks like...

It’ll be good to drive and the engine is a big selling point especially now the C63 gets a skanky four pot with hybrid assistance and the RS4 V6 is effective but lacks character.

The previous version M4 was always off for me, too long looking. Proportions just don’t work.
At least it had a face you could probably get along with.
This one suffers the same proportions issue for a Coupe and is horrendous looking to go with it.

I’d never, ever have one of these over a M2C.

That looks awesome.
Agree, that's the car to use as starting point, if you need a bit more classic inspiration, take some design elements of this one in consideration

I was in the market for one of these next. Nope not now.
Its a shame that the front grill is not offered in several options like wheels generally are.
This will do wonders for the F80, 82 second hand prices.

Hopefully it will look better in the flesh biggrin

Kinda makes my X4M Comp look really pretty....to me at least tongue out

The X4M has the same engine as the new M4 and it’s not bad although crap noise

A rendering from March-they got it pretty spot on.

This looks better but not like the finished version. Looks less nostrily with the narrower middle bit allowing for a wider grill.

What have the designers done to the great looking 'M' cars of recent years, this specimen with it's big ugly gaping mouth reminds me of a bottom feeding fish I've seen on some rain forest swamp....
